Harvest Bonds

In Pluvia City, no one is ever expected to contribute beyond their means—but for those who choose to, there exists a quiet system of shared effort and nourishment known as The Harvest Bonds.

During planting season and throughout the harvest months, members of the community can volunteer extra hours—whether working the fields, preparing meals, transporting goods, or even offering support like childcare or music to ease the labor of others. These additional efforts are recorded by the Pluvia Agricultural Society on what’s known as the Kindweight Ledger, and in return, the volunteer earns extra food shares.

But these shares aren’t meant for themselves.

Instead, the shares are gathered and redistributed to those in the city who cannot contribute directly—the sick, the grieving, the elderly, or those in recovery. Recipients are never named publicly. Instead, food parcels appear quietly at their doors or in covered baskets hung from tree hooks near their homes.

The system is entirely voluntary. There are no announcements, no honors, no public tallies. Most simply refer to it as “putting something in the harvest bond.”

It is one of Pluvia’s oldest unspoken agreements:
When you have more to give, you do.
When you don’t, the city will carry you.

It’s not uncommon to find poems tucked into the baskets. Children sometimes add flowers. Elders have been known to leave small charms as thanks. The act of giving is not transactional—it is simply what is done.

In a city hidden by rain, sometimes the greatest things are those that happen unseen.
