Second Meeting

Kay was walking down the street when he saw him. The man had the same silver grey eyes and caramel colored hair as the man in her dreams. He met her eyes and smiled softly. It was such a familiar gaze and she didn't really know why. She'd never met him before. She froze where she stood on the side walk. He looked to his left and crossed the street, stopping in front of her. "Are you alright?" There was a tinge of amusement in is voice. Kay shook her head softly. " Yeah, I'm fine. Sorry about that. You just remind me of someone." She still couldn't look away from his eyes. The soft adoration in his gaze left her puzzled. Why was he looking at her like that? "That's funny. I was just about to say the same thing about you." He grinned. "Maybe that means something."   "Like what?"   "I dunno, maybe we met in a past life or something," The pained laugh at the end twisted her stomach.   "Ha. Maybe" He held out his hand   "I'm Ordell," his name sounded so familiar on her lips as she echoed. Like a long forgotten song.   She shook his hand "Kay, nice to meet you"   "So Kay" Ordell said in a much lighter tone, "In light of possibly knowing each other, would you like to maybe go out with me?"   She narrowed her eyes as her head tilted to the side "I just met you,"   "Yes, you did."   "You're asking me out."   "Yes, I am. Does coffee sound good?"   The corner of her mouth twitched up. "It does."   He held his hand out again and she slipped hers into it. The feeling of familiarity swarmed her again. He was looking at her again with that strange look in his eyes. Like he was looking at someone he loved. She barely had time to try and understand why he might look at her like that before he pulled her to walk next to him. She thought she could hear the smile on his voice when he spoke again.   "I can't wait to learn more about you."   He tugged her down the block, towards her favorite coffee shop. (She wasn't sure if he knew that, though the thought about what it implied if he did hadn't failed to cross her mind). She was able to learn a bit about him while they walked. Ordell told her he'd only moved to the city a few months ago. He was an artist, dabbling in everything with a particular interest in pottery, and he'd moved here for a funding opportunity. The conversation was comfortable and it almost felt as if they were close friends meeting after years apart. Ordell kept looking at her, like he was checking to make she was there. The grip on her hand stayed tight until they reached the shop, when he let it go and opened the door for her. He walked up to the counter and ordered for himself, a regular sized cappuccino, and there was no pause as he ordered for her too. Exactly what she normally got for herself. Kay just blinked. There's no way he should have known what she wanted. She looked at him, wide eyed. Even he looked a little bit startled, the wince clear and not well covered. He turned to her and grabbed her arm as she started backing up.   "Wait. Please," His voice was pleading, a terrified look in his eyes. Lovely, familiar, grey eyes. "Stay,"   "How did you-"   "Just a lucky guess." He flashed her a nervous grin as he tugged her away from the counter.   "Have you been stalking me?" She took a step back, out of his grasp.   "No, I-look, it's hard to explain,"   "Then start explaining." She crossed her arms, watching as he fumbled.   "Can we get our coffee first?" He motioned over his shoulder toward the counter before rubbing the back of his neck.   "Fine."   For the first time the silence felt awkward, even with the buzz of the cafe. It was only a few minutes before they called his name and set the coffees on the counter. Ordell walked over and picked them up before moving to a table. He pulled out the seat and motioned for Kay to sit down as he moved to his own chair. She settled down and Ordell started speaking.   "It started thousands of years ago, in a place called Laylovahn..."
