Little Moments Like This

Ordell had been out of town for days. He was on some mission or another for the newly appointed king. Aura, another of Kay's soulmates and Ordell's almost adopted child, had come over earlier that morning. The small, three tailed Havenian, barely seven years old, had asked to stay with them while the orphanage was undergoing repairs. They were having trouble with the heating, and, with the current weather especially, it wasn't safe for the children to be in the building. Of course Kay had agreed and brought Aura to her home outside Don Deshda. Kay had spent most of the day watching Aura, making sure she was comfortable in the new environment, though the child had eventually worn out and fallen asleep on the couch. Kay had taken the opportunity to work on things she hadn't had the chance to before. She was in the kitchen when she heard noise coming from the main room. Aura had moved off the couch and onto a cushion on the floor, closer to the heating runes. She grabbed a blanket off the bed before walking back to the main room. Kay smiled as she crouched down and tucked the blanket around the little girl. As she went to stand there was a soft tugging on her sleeve. Bleary eyes looked up at her as Aura tugged on her shirt again. "Do you want me to stay?" A slow nod. Kay settled her self on the cushion next to Aura, letting her cuddle closer. It wouldn't hurt to stay for a while. Ordell knocked softly on the front door. It was late. If Kay was asleep he didn't want to be the one to wake her. There was no reply, so he carefully opened the door. A smile slipped onto his face as he took in the sight before him. Aura and Kay were cuddled together on one of the floor cushions, probably near where heating runes had been. Aura's tails had curled around Kay, who's wings were likely hidden with runes to keep them out of the way. He slipped quietly into the house and over to them. Brushing some light pink hair out of Aura's face, he kissed her forehead before picking her up. He carried her to the bed and set her down before going back for Kay. Once they were settled he took off his robes and laid down behind Kay, pulling up the covers and slipping his arm over her waist. Aura mumbled something and moved closer to Kay's chest. Ordell let out a small sigh before letting sleep take over.
