In Dreams

The four of them were laying in a field of flowers, near Kay's home on Crescent Island. They were watching the clouds when Jay whispered. "We'll always be together, right? The four of us? We'll always be a family?"   It was quiet for a few moments before Ordell answered quietly.   "I think so. From the day we met to the last moment of eternity."   Jay was propped against a wall, a spell having left a gaping whole in their abdomen. Their head was leaned back against the wall. Empty eyes looked forward and a small smile was on their lips.   Nali grabbed Jay's hand from where she laid next to them.   "Duh, silly. Together forever, remember?"   Blood dripped from Kay's hand to the floor. If her robes weren't covered in blood she almost could have been mistaken for sleeping.   Kay, who was laying on Jay's other side, between them and Ordell, grabbed Ordell and Jay's hands, interlacing their fingers with hers.   "She's right. Together, living for the next moment of our existence."   Ordell smiled softly where he knelt on the floor. The sword had gone through his chest instead of hers. He fell forward, into her arms.   Nali jolted upward in her bed. Gasping for air as she sobbed. Looking for blood on her hands. After a few minutes she swung her legs off her bed, standing shakily and walking to the window. She pushed the window open, letting the cool air wash over her before looking out, down into the midday bustle of Realm 19's New York streets.
