A New Home
"You're going to think I'm crazy." Kay was with Ordell in the hills outside Cadia. Finally having time to themselves, hundreds of years after their first meeting. They'd been out for less than an hour, but their original intention of sparring had quickly been lost with the much more enjoyable idea of cloud watching and talking about what had happened over the past hundred years. It had left them laying side by side on the silver grass, looking up into a dark red sky. "If it's important to you then it's important to me," he rolled to his side, towards her, and propped himself up on his elbow. "You can tell me." Kay looked at him, debating different outcomes, before closing her eyes. "When I was on the island, I used to imagine this place. It was a library, I think." She opened her eyes again and met his gaze. Stormy gray eyes watched her carefully. "I used to pretend to go there, just so I could be somewhere else."
"Did you ever try to go there, after you met Alton?" Ordell stood and brushed the grass of his clothes.
"No. I never even considered it to be a possibility," She got to her feet, watching Ordell's back "I could do that?"
"I don't know. You might not be able to on your own, since you'd essentially be creating a new Realm." He turned to face her. "But it might be worth a try."
"I'm not sure I would even know where to start." Ordell held his hand out towards her. "I could help you, if you'd like?" Kay reached out and took his hand. "Now close your eyes. Can you see it?" She closed her eyes and tried to imagine it. Her library. She nodded slowly, trying to hold on to the image. "Good. Now you know what a portal spell feels like right? Try to imagine a portal taking us there." As she tried to imagine a portal to there, a tingling sensation began in the hand holding Ordell's. In a matter of seconds the tingling became a burning and there was a tugging on her stomach, like a portal or Nali's teleportation. Both feelings vanished as quickly as they came. "Open your eyes." Kay's eyes fluttered open. Ordell was grinning at her and... they weren't in the Cadian hills anymore. They were in a small room, wooden shelves lined the walls. She turned. A fireplace on the other wall. Floor cushions and blankets and so many books. "It worked!" Kay spun and looked at Ordell.
"It did. I'm not surprised, since you were the one with the idea." It was only a couple steps and Kay had wrapped her arms around Ordell, hugging him tightly. "Thank you." His only reply was to return her hug.
