Placeholder for the human civilization located in the southern jungle region of the western continent.
Culture
A matriarchal society with heavy emphasis on the rule of women. Males are only allowed to be slaves or consorts, chosen by their masters as a reward for dedicated servitude or for some other honor. Pit-fighting and gladiatorial combat are the national sport and taking a gladiator-champion as a consort is seen as a desirable practice by the ruling class.
Females are revered from birth and are given an education starting at the age of 2. Males are expected to serve as house-slaves until puberty, upon which they may be transferred to either manual labor, the arenas, or the military depending on their potential. In addition, males are forbidden from learning or being taught to read, write, or use magic.
Paradoxically, the rank and file of the nation's armies are made up of males, while all leadership positions are assumed by females. Only in the military are certain males taught to read and write.
Assets
The region is rich in diamond mines, gold, and exotic plants essential to the the production of healing potions. Slave labor (foreign or domestic) is used to harvest these resources.
History
Following the defeat of the Hassyth in the Second Great War, their empire was thrown into chaos. Their rulers learned that their Goblin allies had only committed a third of their military forces in the war, and now stood outside their borders poised to strike and conquer their lands. While the invaders were repelled, it was not without heavy losses which led to further destabilization of the ruling elite. With order breaking down within Hassyth borders a group of females, the slave caste of the First Civilization of Hass, rose up against the male-dominated society of the Hass, using bed-slaves to slaughter the corrupt priesthood and ruling lords in their sleep. They then waged a guerilla war against the already weakened army from the jungle while seducing the weak-willed to their cause. Anybody who supported or was associated with the former regime was hunted down and summarily executed. Within 3 years, they toppled the centuries old civilization and crowned their first Empress of Maz'Ataq. Her famous first decree would be that no man would be able to speak to or gaze upon a woman without permission.
