Master Bonobo's Soak, Scrub & Rub

A Haven for Your Body. Private Baths, Hot Spring Soaks, Trimmings, Kneadings, Skin Tendings
This large stone building is quite impressive and one of the largest and tallest. White and blue granite walls tilt slightly inward for over twenty feet under a blue slate roof. The pyramid-shaped roof has a large number of copper-framed windows set into it. A central stone tower rises above the center of the roof. The building takes up an entire block with large sidewalks surrounding. The diagonally-laid diamond-shaped roof slate, the intricate blockwork, and the stone carvings show craftsmanship at great expense.   Master Bonobo is a metaphysician and guru of bodywork, having treated people from the powerful and the famous to the couple down the street. Besides the high priced treatments, he sells a number of medicines and herbs to help ward away life's problems. He has traveled far and brought treatments from around the world to his bathhouse services.     The well-to-do come here to soak in the natural hot salt spring with its many natural beneficial effects. And it is one of those places you take visitors who you need to impress them. Bathings, scrubbing of rough skin, trimming gangly nails, cutting and trimming hair, covering skin in ointments, oils, and muds that promise clean young skin, and relaxing massages to therapeutically kneading muscles are done until the client has relaxed into a pool of bliss.  Some clients can't make it through a week without a visit to their favorite body worker.   The staff is mostly halflings with a few larger workers who can help lift or carry people as needed. Who better to assist with relaxation than a people known for their easy, layabout natures. Comfort and relaxation are the halfling's bread and butter to existence. The staff is impeccably clean, dressed in single-colored robes of rich colors. They are polite, soft-spoken, and endlessly respectful. For some treatments wines, meads, and beers are offered along with small bits of cheese, sweet bakery, and bits of fruit.   Despite the square footprint, the rooms inside are usually round or elliptical. The hot spring is located below ground level, but the entrance foyer has a long pool that steps up through little waterfalls to four feet high circular pool with warm waters flowing from some unseen source. An earthy, salty smell mixes with woods, florals, even a bit of cinnamon from golden bowls of flowers and bits lining the walls. A statue at the top of the pool depicts a mermaid-like woman, only with two fish legs, rising up, waters bursting around her. Her scaled skin is wet and it seems like the water comes from her scales running down into the pool.  A balcony over the main entrance doors overlooks the pool and statue. Oddly, the balcony has no railing.  Often Master Bonobo can be seen in deep meditation levitating in the air above the balcony floor.   Soft music of strings and gentle slow singing seem to float in the air from unseen musicians. There is a music room, strangely shaped with gradual sloping sinkholes all about it. These stone tunnels run to a variety of statues where the sound is released into rooms throughout.  Sometimes disguised within the mouth of a lion, or just on a wall but hidden from view.  The musicians have been trained in playing songs slowly and holding notes longer to compensate for some of the echo naturally caused by the music traveling all over the building. Private rooms have a round port, secured with metal rings on a stone wall. A cap stuffed with cloth is locked into place. It can be removed to allow the music in or kept secured for quiet and a better sense of privacy. The private rooms are used for business meetings.  Nothing loosens someone's prices like an hour of having a halfling work over tired muscles.
The statue is Minerveen, a little known water spirit or demi-god.  She is said to inhabit hot water springs as well as geysers and even sulfur springs.    While Bonobo is a metaphysician of Chakrat training, he is also part-showman, part-businessman, and part-healer. Healing can be blocked by the mind. Sometimes people have to be tricked into letting themselves feeling better. So along with practical services, they offer the exotic and the unusual. The spring is only slightly tepid naturally, so a boiler system warms some of the water and adds 'natural' salts, including magnesium and rock salts. Bonobo mixes the formula himself.  The boiler is on the next block, the buildings connect to each other underneath by tunnels and storage rooms.   Bonobo's wife is second in charge and handles most of the service staff. Despite her relaxed, smiling appearance, she demands perfection from the staff.
