The Mundane Realm

This is the main campaign setting for Urban Arcana. This is the real world, in the near future. Thus, about anything from the real world can be pulled into this setting as either current or historical information.   Earth has reached tech level 2. At this level, almost every form of technology has integrated electronics and advanced computer control. Electrification is now commonplace, though computers have yet to dominate civilization. Ground vehicles now sport electronics; some even have climate control and electronic stability. Aircraft now have fly-by-wire, vectored thrust, and vertical-take-off capacity. Weapons have computer tracking and targeting. Infrared and thermal imaging is available, but not standard. Firearms haven’t changed but have grown more complicated with advanced reloading and higher firing rates. Advances in construction make them lighter with larger calibers. Medical advances include computer diagnostic beds, MRIs, and X-Rays. Cybernetics and genetic manipulation have become part of medical care.   Corporations now govern the world. On Wednesday, February 19, 2048 the USA falls in civil war and the government is overthrown. This ends the Democratic Era. But the rebellion was not ready to replace the government that they over threw and thus The Era Of Anarchy began. Draco industries declared itself the new government of Seattle and took control of the city. Shortly after, companies begin to take over areas until all of the USA is divided amongst them. This ends the anarchy and gives rise to world wide Corporatocracy.   As science becomes a more prominent feature in society with cybernetics and genetic modifications, people are becoming less religious with only about 40% of the American population now declaring themselves to follow a religion. Christianity is still the largest religion in the country with about 50% of those who follow a religion declaring that they are Christian. However, these body modifications are still not widely accepted. Those who choose to get the more dramatic modifications (taking on animal appearance or almost a complete robotic form) are often shunned and treated poorly.
