Order of the Valiant Heart
Headquartered in Castle Highrock in the eponymous Highrock system, the Order of the Valiant Heart is an organization dedicated to the destruction of undead beings everywhere in the galaxy.
Though focused mostly on undead threats, the Order is also a major center of divine innovation. The Order discovers on average 3 new gods per year, most famously the supermassive god Belganus at the center of the galaxy.
Sentry Corps
The Sentry Corps are the branch of the Order that destroys undead. They deal with major threats, such as large hordes, powerful necromancers, and liches. In a fit of irony, this branch is actually the smallest of the three corps, as major undead threats are very rare in the modern day.Scout Corps
The Scout Corps focus on finding and identifying undead in the galaxy. Most of their time is spent on ships and uninhabited islands, away from the comforts of modern civilization. They are not expected to engage with major undead threats, but are perfectly capable of destroying the occasional wraith or ghoul.Singularity Corps
The Singularity Corps are the branch that focuses on divine research and stellar developments. These corpsmen are not fighters, but work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the Order running smoothly. Their star maps are considered to be the de facto galactic standard and see use in most interstellar trade routes. In return for adherence to the above requirements, members of the Order enjoy benefits such as easy access to restorative magic and utilities.Assets
The Order has its headquarters in the Highrock system, most prominently shown in Castle Highrock. The system is built to be entirely self-sufficient and is capable of withstanding an extended siege.
In addition to countless corvettes and cutters, the Order has a navy of 25 frigates, 62 galleons, 37 steamers, and 1 dreadnaught, all spread across the galaxy between various outposts. Furthermore, construction of a carrier is underway at the Corentheon shipyards. Highrock has the highest concentration of ships, though larger outposts such as the Ecuminopolis outpost have multiple ships in reserve.
History
The Order was formed in 1567 RE, in the wake of the Second Skeleton Plague. Without the centralized laws of the Cheub Empire, necromancy was unregulated once again - but when the necromancers died, their undead ran rampant and after several centuries became a problem on a galactic scale. Though the undead could not utilize interstellar travel on their own, they could stow away on ships and grow exponentially. Unscrupulous necromancers could also go from island to island, creating undead, and leaving the island to its own devices.
As island after island was abandoned to the undead hordes, loxodon warleader Dorel gathered an army of her own, and eventually landed an army of 1,300 soldiers in the Highrock system to take it back from the hordes. She succeeded, and took her increasingly large army from system to system, wiping out any undead they found. As the site of their first victory, the Highrock system was chosen as their headquarters.
Over time, the organization rebranded itself as the Order of the Valiant Heart, and became one of the most influential organizations during the Remnants Era. Their efforts have ensured that most of the galaxy outlaws necromancy.
