Grenavitch Templars

"Well, someone is always in need of a helping hand around these parts, why don't we be the helper for once? You know, protect the town, heal people, deliver food, and sit down with people and have a nice cup of coffee" - Verner Grenavitch (Founder of the Grenavitch Templars), 582 PE, "Annals of the Grenavitch Templars"   Born out of the necessity to maintain a semblance of law and order in the wilder parts of the galaxy, the Templars are the most well known group helping out in the frontier. Their main purpose is to assist the assorted folk in the more remote systems, providing health and protection services from the assorted dangers of the outer islands.   A highly motivated organization, they are better known for their humanitarian assistance than martial prowess, though with recent tidings of dark influences the Templars are looking to turn that around.   An interesting trend noted by observers is the prodigious consumption of coffee by the organization, with low estimates putting it at 84 cups of coffee consumed by each person daily.   In keeping with their judicial heritage, the organization is divided into courts, overseen by the High Court, with major policy decisions made by the Union Assembly.

The Union Assembly

"Right, when you go up to plea for help, remember to spend more time on working out the details than pleading. They some good folk, and they understand that you need assistance." - Master-At-Arms Timbrook to Arnold of Larney during the third pirate incursion, 235 PE, "Autobiography of Arnold of Larney"   The main governing body of the Templars, they're a collection of the upper senior ranks who vote on the majority of the issues. Although they rarely exercise executive powers, they are the organization that makes the rules and determines the primary policies of the organization, and serve as the highest judiciary body.

The High Court

"It's the most bizarre assortment of people I've ever met. There was a knight, a cowboy, an accountant, a wizard, and a reformed pirate. They did offer coffee and cookies though." - Carrie Learner, 45 SE, Personal Account   The High Court is the main executive body of the organization, running the day-to-day operations and making quick decisions when necessary. It consists of the Grand Marshal, Archpriest, General Quartermaster, Chief Warden, and the Court Secretary positions.

Court of the Sentinels

"Darn lies, that wasn't no court o' law! I came in thinking I could cowe that judge into letting Billy go, but all I saw when I got there was cowboys and knights! They greeted me right quick with the barrels of guns and the tip of a spear. They offered coffee and biscuits though when they interrogated me afterwards." - Karl the Wild, 92 SE, "Accounts of the Galaxies Outlaws"

Order of the Wardens

"34 wardens of the Templars went into the forest, 5 came out, it was certainly a bittersweet day. One of them approached me, took a swig of what looked to be coffee and said 'Well, that witch won't be bother any longer'" - Unknown author, PE 354, Personal diaries   Lead by the mantra "Not All Of Us Must Come Back Alive", the Wardens Order is the first response task force of the Templars, called up whenever a major disaster happens. Made up of mostly knights and clerics, they certainly fit the ideals of a knightly order. Primarily equipped to perform humanitarian and first response, they also act as the Templars strike force. When faced against threats, they are expected to engage and contain threats before they become worse,

Sheriffs Department

"That night we heard those Templar deputies having a shootout with the cronies of Bastier the hills over yonder, blasting away in what sounded like a war. In the morning we were greeted by captured bandits. What really amazed us though was nary a scrape was seen on the sheriffs." - Brawon, SE 57, Interview by the Frontier Gazette   Observed for being the odds one out in a knight based organization, they're better known for their marksmanship and cunning. Tasked with keeping order and hunting down troublemakers, they serve double duty as the law enforcement and the Templars scouts. Preferring slyness and tact over the brawn of the wardens, they have an impressive track record of sniffing out trouble before it arises.

Shock Corps

"For 40 days and 40 nights straight, the guns on the galleons mixed with the artillery on the ground in their relentless bombardment of King Obershell's last stronghold. I was amazed at the tenacity of the Templars bombardment and there skillful repelling of assaults day in and day out. Upon boarding one of their galleons, I learned that what fueled their fury was a demoralizing quantity of coffee that could have drowned the enemy several times over" - Sir Marlinod, PE 439, Report to the Ecumenopolis City Council   What the Shock Corps lacks in the bravery and brawn of the Wardens, or the cunning of their Sheriff counterparts, the corps makes up for it in superior firepower and judicious amounts of coffee. Called upon when firepower is needed, they are the backbone of the Grenavitch Templars military force structure. A mixed ground and naval force, they primarily operate larger military ships, although notably for the size of the organization they don't operate any major capital ships, choosing instead to invest it in their humanitarian services. The efficacy in part has been attributed to the corps non existant sleep schedule, fueled so much by coffee that their nicknames are "Coffelocks" (No relation to the sport).

Court of Blessings

"What the Templars are good for? The Wardens are near suicidal, the Sheriff's shoot before asking, and the Shock Corps are a bunch of caffeine fueled coffee heads. What you're really looking for are their healers, now that's where the worth of the Templars are found." - General Gurriere, 231 PE, Alleged Comment

Templar Medical Foundation

"I got wheeled into the hospital room, where they put my arm and leg back together, and several hours later I was good as new. I would've felt relieved if not for the hospital staff drinking pots of coffee in one go." - Unknown Person, ?-320PE, Recovered Account   The face of the Templars, they are renowned for their medical services, defying death's door on a regular basis. Known as one of the leading medical organizations in galaxy, many go to them in order to be healed. Few have died in their care, and they are specialized in the removal of curses, a must have when the local witch in the swamp cursed you for the third time this week.

Logistical Services

"Dear Diary, today the first shipment of food relief have arrived from the Templars. I am glad that Charlie and I won't starve anymore. They brought bread and salted meats that made my mouth water, but they also brought a beverage called ... coffee? Its a dark brown brew that the Templars drink as frequently as one drinks water." - Unknown Author, Unknown Date, Personal Diary   The main sustainment effort of the Grenavitch Templars, they supply all the humanitarian efforts of the organization. When the need arises, they also sustain military operations. Although not nearly as famous as the Medical Foundation, they operate a logistical system that even rivals that of the Cherub Empire in terms of efficacy and sophistication. It is an inside joke however, that the logistical services need not much to be successful, as all they need to bring is coffee and fuel to keep it warm in order to support the Templars operations.

Court of Justice

"Don't try bribing the judge. I know in your hometown that's how it's done, but here in the Templar courts, they're a different breed. I tried it, and I got an extra 100 years! I mean, I live for thousands of years, so it's not a big deal, but you will be stuck here for the rest of your life" - Erwin (King of the Elven Thieves), PE 274, Personal Account   Despite the name, this branch is made up of numerous courts that carry out justice in the frontier area. The court ranks go from lower, middle, upper, system, constellation, high, and then finally the Union Assembly. In order to have the most flexibility between different systems, the code of laws is relatively generic and simple in order to make it widespread. If the case involves magic crimes, the courts may partner with the Magic Institute.
