Gehenna
Geography
Gehenna is a vast, oppressive forest that stretches endlessly across the barren landscape. The region has no visible borders, yet those within can never escape. It is open yet suffocating, marked by ancient runic stones that mark the perimeter of this eternal prison. The ground is dry, cracked, and littered with lifeless soil, incapable of sustaining vegetation. Shadows cling to every surface, and a heavy, unnatural fog blankets the entire area.
Ecosystem
The ecosystem is minimal and hostile. Bare trees dominate the landscape, skeletal and unyielding. Very few creatures can survive here, as the environment actively suppresses life. It is where irreedemable souls are sent. These are the primary “inhabitants,” doomed to wander the forest, reliving their worst fears and memories.
Localized Phenomena
The Fog of Fear is Gehenna's most notorious phenomenon. It manifests each soul's deepest fears, forcing them to relive their most painful memories in a nightmarish loop. The fog seems sentient, responding to the presence of any living or dead soul by amplifying their terror. As the fog grows denser, it warps the landscape itself, making the forest appear even more distorted and unrecognizable, ensuring no escape or sense of direction.
Climate
Gehenna’s climate is arid and unwelcoming. Despite the presence of a forest, the air is dry, and there is no precipitation to speak of. The temperature remains cool but not cold—just uncomfortable enough to add to the misery. The thick fog saturates the air, giving it a damp and clinging feel, but no moisture ever touches the ground. Days and nights are indistinguishable, with eternal twilight casting a dim, grey hue over the region.
Fauna & Flora
Flora: The only plants that grow in Gehenna are the twisted, bare trees. No leaves, flowers, or undergrowth survive. The trees appear ancient, their bark cracked and gnarled, seeming to warp with the surrounding magic.
Fauna: Gehenna has little to no animal life. Occasionally, shadowy, indistinct figures can be glimpsed, but they are merely reflections of the souls’ fears, not actual creatures.
Natural Resources
Gehenna offers no natural resources that can be harvested. The true “resource” of Gehenna is its ability to imprison and torment souls indefinitely.
Tourism
Gehenna is not a place anyone seeks out. It gets no visitors, and no one dares to enter willingly. There are no stories of those who have returned from Gehenna, and it stands as a stark reminder of Hell’s most severe form of punishment. Its isolation and dread ensure that it is avoided at all costs, even by the strongest and most curious demons.
