The White City

The most prominent city on the silent lake, the city is known as the city of marble and gold and is the second wealthiest city in the world. It also boasts a higher percentage of nobles than any other city, once the Phervian were removed from the silent lake.

History

Shadow Republic

Founded in 106 Dragon by a group of wealthy nobles looking to increase their trade holdings. Built on a small plateau overlooking the silent sea. The town quickly grew, becoming the shadow republic's trade hub, this increased once Shadow's port was built. The white city also became a major trade hub for the Silent Lake region through the construction of the Wyrms Way Canal. Queen Eva also became queen during this time period, though it's not clear exactly when.

First sovernty

As the shadow republic collapsed, the white city found itself in a prominent position of trade, keeping much of its wealth and power. Trying, at first, to reestablish the republic around the safe cities of the shadow lake. The issue found was every city wanted its own priorities focused on, causing the idea to be forgotten about. Still the main trade center of the area though, the white city often got to speak on politics of other areas. The city also went through a rebuilding project after the lower city burnt down, turning it into a true city of marble.

Imerpial dependant

During the imperial southern crusade, Queen Eva dissolved the senate, claiming a state of emergency, and surrendered the city without a fight. Though this caused riots at first, It proved the correct decision when Tarverloth was sacked for resisting. Providing support and trade during the remaining of the southern and desert crusades, the white city temporarily dropped in prominence. This was until the night of the Treaty of Lacertillia when the empire was basically bankrupted. Seeing her opportunity Queen Eva made a deal with Nulgha, to pay off the empire's debt in exchange for independence. Despite the unfavorable terms, the white city quickly recovered.

Absolute monachy

Deciding her city needed a firm, decisive hand to lead it, Queen Eva refused to reinstate the senate, instead ruling on her own. Trade agreements were quickly drawn up with Lacertillia and even the empire. A lot of these incoming funds were put into the military and navy forming the white army and navy. Despite the threats of several Prophets, including the Demon Prophet, Eva refused to yield a second time, citing the deal made. Once rebellions broke out throughout the empire of Akoom, Eva smiled and announced the emergency had passed, reinstating the full senate.

Second Sovernty

The senate oversaw a new golden age for the city, with most trade flowing through its dependant. Skilled artisans from all over the world came to set up shop within the city, once again causing it to burn down from a smithing accident. Rebuilt to a strict district plan it was redesigned to support not only itself but the growing number of visitors.

Crisis of the Fey age

While left untouched for the majority of the crisis, several events in its final year led to the city losing prestige and power. Firstly a farmer opened the sealed lab to the shrieker horde, leaving the farmland around the city ravaged and causing a food shortage. Secondly, during the demonic invasion, a horde of lesser demons attacked the dock, leading to heavy damage to several districts and forcing the noble district to be sealed due to corruption within.

Districts

Noble district

Accessible only by a large staircase, the city proper, built atop the original plateau, is surrounded by a large marble-coated granite wall with gold and marble gates. This holds the nobility and elite of the city, around fifty percent of the population. Surrounding the senate house and forum are the various mansions of these elites.

Severnt district

Off to one side are the city's version of slums, housing blocks that hold a small shrine, fountain, and room for 4 families. Made of several materials from white brick to marble, this part of the city site is in the shadow of the upper wall, housing forty percent of the population, this group makes up cleaners, stall vendors and some artisans.

City of tents

The Marketplace between the main gate, artisan district, and docks, the area is the size of a small village and is just a sea of tents. Selling anything a citizen, visitor, or adventure could want, each section is clearly labeled by large signs.

Artisan Disrict

A small area between the market and stairs to the noble district where wares are made. Made of white stone to give off the appearance of marble.

Docks

The east side of the city has docks and warehouses, most taverns also occupy this area.
