The Wildlands

The Wildlands are the (mostly) unclaimed lands west of the Galzhür mountain range. They are unclaimed not because there is nothing to be had -- in fact, the Wildlands contain most of the arable land on Galzhür -- but because the natives of the region have proven too difficult for either the dragons or the humans to subdue. Should you ever find yourself in this untamed wilderness without a guide, you must do your utmost to conform to local custom. As the locals take offense at any refusal to do so.   The locals in question are generally referred to as the Kgat. Their species is largely responsible for the resistance to colonization and domination in the region, and they command great respect from all of the residents east of the Galzhür mountains. They are a curious lot, I've seen them a few times myself -- brutish looking at first (their language is guttural and harsh), but there is a strange intelligence to them, I can't deny. Many natives of Galzhür seem to view them as nothing more than an exceptionally savage orc race -- and thus view them with all the disdain and disgust as the rest of the "civilized" world.   Not just the Kgat have kept the Wildlands free, though. The savage beasts I've seen there are more fearsome than any others. Most are mammoth in size and can tear a man to shreds with ease. Who would want to live in such a place? Perhaps this explains the hardness of the Kgat. The wide open space of the savanna is perfect for that sort of life, you know. Plenty of food and space.

Geography

The dominating biome of the Wildlands is the savanna which it is most famous for. Massive beasts roam this beautiful landscape, moving in vast groups from north to south with the changing of the seasons. The land is actually some of the best farmland known to the continent, but is sadly unusable due to the Kgat resistance to more permanent settlements in their territory.   Beyond the vast greenish fields, there is also the dead forest which was colonized by the vampires ages ago to found Eldrichten. I've not much to say on the dead forest as the name simply seems to cover it all -- though the deadwood is a decent enough building material for those who aren't indisposed to its coloration.   A final noteworthy area I shall like to mention is the site of the Wild Grove druid camp. The forest is the only one in the whole Wildlands, but is arguably its most beautiful feature. There you can find a strange interface between the gargantuan beasts of the savanna and the small birds and rodents that typically are seen in the grove. Should you ever plan a trip to the Wildlands, you absolutely must see this wonder.
