Dire Bee

Perhaps the largest fling of all rue insects. The Dire Bee is a sight all to come in lands populated by larger flowers. Though massive by insectile standards, the Dire Bee is still no larger than the average bird. Like their smaller cousins, then mostly in the wild take their pollen from the flowers. However, there are several subspecies that have found a specialisation in taking their sugars directly from the insides of plants such as sugar cane. Though all species share the ability to take in their sugarer directly if they find the right source. Wich has unfortunately led many to set up population in civilised areas. In many places, urban Dire Bees are a virile a population as foxes or rats. This would not be too much of a problem if it was not for their size. The sting of a oridany dire bee is more than capable of stunning a fully grown man, with some of the larger species even be able able to completely disable a horse for several hours. Fortunately, though, they are not very aggressive creatures and will make a faring noise by violently vibrating their wings before resorting to violence in most cases.   Due to their size, Dire Bees tend to live in much smaller colonies than regular bees, with only a few hundred members at most. Regretfully, Dire Bee honey not normally as delicious as the more concentrated flavours of smaller bees and in some cases is even acidic to a mild degree. Though some breeds are still able to produce something that is more palatable to the dining table, these are mostly captive breeds fed on a controlled diet.
