The Witchlight Fens

Beyond the broken savannas of the vale and the hazardous mire of the Riverlands, is the Witchlight Fens. Consisting of a mess of twisted vines and plant matter. Once a place where people sought for protection, these old shrines and waycastles had fallen into decay and is now haunted by the choir of singing, day and night and a mysterious aurora that seems to hang over head. However, it still maintains its holy nature and exudes a mysterious aura. The inhospitable and difficult-to-traverse region of the fen has formed a natural barrier between the Plains of Harrack Unarth and the Nentir Vale for many years.

The trees of the Witchlight Fens has thick trunks with sagging canopies like weeping willows. Black, sticky, tar-like ichor has begun to coat the vegetation and seeped into the ground. And a clear sign that the spirits had claimed much of this delapodated land. The bones of fallen creatures were clearly visible throughout the fenlands, and should there be space between the ivory, water begins to fill up the space. And in some places the water is toxic and corrosive. It is said that a great warrior was killed here - but their power was too great to dispurse, and instead grew even greater challengers.

These challengers might very well be the Zantegebas; the Waterlords.
For few survive encountering these ironscaled beasts.

Geography

Sareth’s Demesne
A series of underground ruins of the Nerathilord's that is said to be full of deadly traps and forbidden magic. Tormented ancestors cling to this location, unable to acsend beyond the moorlands to the Upper Realms. Occultists and treasure hunters occasionally brave the harsh enviroment to bettle understand the golden tombs of Sareth’s Demesne - many more meet their end in the Witchlight Fens.
Temple of Zuhriyya
Built out of an Dracoturtle skull, there is said to be a temple dedicated to the lord of serpents and inhabited by snake-infested humanoids. It's located near the Southern Great Lakes - yet it is overly populated by vampiric mists. These strange aberrant life-forms are slowly spreading out beyond the Witchlight Fens. And may very well be the cause of the poisonous mist of the Darish De'Cour.
Witchlight Hermitage
A small hermitage that lies near the Divding River, along the ever-changing borders of the Brackmarsh tribal lands. The community works to counteract the effects of the mire, influenced by great wounds to the wraith-world. An unusual amount of Water Genasi are born here - many turning to working for a priestess of Addeessa the Nightbringer, Ofeen Nole.
Renefik
This halfling enclave work the local watercourses as traders and guides. Renefik’s neighbors view the halflings as self-serving and a bit greedy, but as far less of a threat than most creatures that dwell in the swamp. The enclave consists of four multistory buildings. The enclave is lightly fortified, which means that it more defensible than most holdings in the area.

According to legend, one of Sagawehn, Eater of the Dead, Nerathilord of Vermin's most powerful servants - a warlord by the name of Sareth - was killed in battle in this location, and the corpse corrupted the surrounding moorlands. Sareth was said to have totem decorated armor that could control not just the vampiric mist, but also the legion of warriors that were nothing more than spectral remnants. All souls bound in an etheric network that ran through Sareth's totem-armor.

All are entrapped there by an ancient sorcerer as a last ditch effort to save a dying people. While the rest of the broken savannas of the Dragondown Coast may feel the shadow of the Nerathilords - it is the Witchlight Fens that seems to truly be the death raddles of the ancient empire. Scavanger Cartels seek to plunder the golden tombs of the old world still, regardless of the dangers.
