Magic - How and Why it works
Where does it come from?
Long ago, the now exiled deity known as Phosra caused the realm of Codea to overlap with our own.
The result of this overlap was the existence of magic in the material realm.
This overlap is not perfect due to the differing nature of the realms causing the energy used for magic to be stronger or weaker depending on the location.
The energy, known as "mana", flows almost like invisible rivers across Ulfira. Spellcasters draw from these rivers to shape the mana allowing them to bend reality.
Much like a bucket, a spellcaster can only take so much from these rivers before reaching their capacity. Resting allows spellcasters to "empty their bucket" so they can draw from the river again.
Why does it work?
Mana itself is raw energy from the realm of the deity of magic.
To use it is to harness something meant only for the deities, not mortals.
Mortals are able to use a fraction of its power as portions of it became entwined with them.
As a spellcaster uses more of the energy more frequently their body becomes more attuned to it, allowing them to use it in larger and longer ways.
