Lythari

I was once lost in Anland Forest for the better of a month. I eventually collapsed from exhaustion. As I struggled to, at the very least, sit, a wolf, larger than any wolf I had ever seen before, appeared before me. I closed my eyes, prepared for death, only to feel a gentle hand upon my shoulder. Once I opened my eyes, I saw an elf sitting before me, her eyes full of worry. At the moment, I'd assumed I was seeing things, and I passed out soon after. I awoke outside of the forest in a small lean-to by the road to Umyinaes, a blanket made of an elk's pelt wrapped around me and bandages over the few wounds I'd obtained. After a while of sitting there, it eventually hit me what I had encountered that night.   A lythari.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Lythari look like normal elves while unchanged, though their eyes are often described as much more piercing. They are also, somehow, more lithe than their counterparts.

Genetics and Reproduction

Considered the truest form of lycanthropy, all lycanthropic creatures are believed to somehow descend from the lythari. Lycanthropy seems to pass down as a recessive gene. Should two lythari have children together, that child will always be lythari. On another note, if a lythari and an unturned person has children, the child will never be lythari, but instead an elf, or half-elf. Then, if a lythari and some other lycanthropy-afflicted person has children, that child has a chance of being lycanthropy-afflicted as well, though these individuals have been known to eventually become mindless, dangerous creatures.

One can be turned into a lythari through a ritual, but both sides must be willing in order for the ritual to successfully turn. The new lythari will then bare a scar shaped like that of a wolf bite.

Growth Rate & Stages

Lythari age at the same rate as normal elves, but have been recorded to live much, much longer. And, due to their natural aversion to conflict, they can very easily reach their elder years. Like elves, their lives appear to be powered by a magical source, and they will only die naturally from this source becoming extinguished.

Ecology and Habitats

Each elvish sub-race influences the lycanthropy in some way. For example, high elf lythari are much more likely to tread the mountains, while snow elf lythari prefer the snowy wastes... and so forth. However, no matter what, all lythari will still reside within wooded areas.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Aside from wood and wyld elves, these are the only elves known to eat meat. However, they will usually only do so when in their wolf form. Otherwise, they simply stick to the same diet that they would normally in their elf forms.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Lythari generally live in packs that comprise several families. Finding a sole lythari is very rare, especially considering that they are the combination of two incredibly social creatures. Once, every century, all neighboring packs will meet together. During this time, members will swap between packs to help strengthen bloodlines and the like. Most often, it is younger members who will switch packs, usually seeking romance, or a purpose.

Facial characteristics

Based off of their subrace, but they do have a tendency for more vibrant and striking eye colors.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their wolf forms provide extra assistance to their senses. Even in their elven forms, they have been known to be able to track certain beings by scent alone, and sneaking up on a lythari is a feat worthy of bragging. Strangely, their lycanthropy seems to somehow increase the magical abilities of some individuals.

Average Weight

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Lythari are known to bear strange markings that take the forms of the various moon phases. However, the most bizarre part of these marks is that they have been known to change and shift with the moon's cycle. They only appear at night, or if the owner of said mark otherwise finds themselves in the dark.
