Ember

When Ember was first found, she'd not yet hatched. Her discovery was not quite the glorious occasion that later legends would allude to.     Anthem, quite literally, tripped over Ember's egg. Of course, she'd been called by Ember telepathically, without truly understanding why she was compelled to go blundering through the thick stand of trees. But once she had tripped and found herself nose-to-shell, she couldn't very well leave the little thing there, could she? So she scooped up the egg and took it carefully back to the road to show her traveling companion, Raven. They tucked it carefully in Anthem's pack, where it nestled safe and sound for a few more days.   Until she hatched.    As she grew, Ember taught Anthem a great many things about their bond, their shared magic, and about dragons in general.   A Scholar that came to visit told them that Ember was possibly the last Tinedra (sub-species of dragon), and possibly the last dragon left in all of Uclandia. This made Ember both proud and sad.   (Author's note: You'll discover for yourself if Ember is the last of her kind when the novel "Anthem's Ember" comes out!)   Ember developed quite the personality as she grew up. Through her shared mind-communication with Anthem, Ember developed a sense of humor, and a dry sarcasm. She did not trust many humans. She was happiest flying over the treetops with Anthem tucked between her wings, hanging on for dear life.
