Perma-Death & Surrogates

The real information and details for this section will be found in the next section labeled CHARACTER.
This reference is more of a high-level overview of this particular and semi-unique part of the game.

Perma-Death

The UberSpace (UBS) system has permanent “death” for characters. If your character dies in the game and there’s no in-game medical or other mechanism to resurrect or save your character, your character is DEAD... This is a harsh and surprising reality for anyone who’s never lost a character in an RPG game. It’s not fun. I’ve seen younger kids break down in tears when their character of multiple sessions does something not-smart and the character dies as a result.   If your character dies, you can start another one from scratch. You can then, eventually, hook back up with your crew/faction and almost continue as if nothing changed, minus whatever loot, skills, degrees and licenses they had. As a general rule, you will NOT be allowed to claim the stuff from your prior character to put with your new character. This wouldn’t be very realistic unless you had a string of “relatives” as “backup”.   To combat this harsh and potential reality, this universe has sophisticated robots/androids that you can remote control from a Surrogate Station.

Surrogates (CHARACTER Insurance)

Surrogates are an expensive robot/android that functions as your body-double. You have to be in a Surrogate Station with a good comms-link to the surrogate at all times for the surrogate to function. Surrogates, as of the 2037 UNCLES Resolution are NOT allowed to have any AI or “self” function. They are ONLY a Remote-Controlled android that can serve as your body double.   These units are expensive, but can be rented monthly. It is highly recommended that in addition to the rental fee, you also purchase insurance on the unit as well.
