Caliban

Caliban: A Continent of Peril and Legend

Environment and Terrain

  • Endless Forests: Caliban is a vast, forest-covered land, known for its ancient and dense woodlands that stretch from horizon to horizon. The towering trees form a canopy so thick that sunlight struggles to pierce through in many places, leaving the forest floor in perpetual twilight.
  • Deadly Wildlife: The continent is infamous for its monstrous fauna. These creatures, twisted by an unknown corruption, are larger and more ferocious than those found elsewhere. They stalk the forests relentlessly, preying on anything that ventures too far from safety.
  • Fortified Settlements: Human habitation on Caliban is sparse and isolated, with settlements built as fortified keeps or walled towns to defend against the constant threat of the wilderness.

Society and Governance

  • Feudal Hierarchy: Caliban’s people live under a strict feudal system, where power is held by noble lords and knightly orders. These knights are sworn protectors of the settlements, their lives dedicated to hunting the beasts of the wild and safeguarding their communities.
  • The Order: Among the various knightly brotherhoods, one stands above the rest: The Order. Renowned for its discipline, unity, and valor, The Order has become the heart of Caliban’s culture and defense, inspiring tales of heroism that are passed down through generations.
  • Unification Under a Great Leader: The Order was once just one of many knightly factions on Caliban. It was only under the guidance of a visionary leader—a warrior of unparalleled skill and charisma—that the continent’s warring orders were brought together. This leader, raised among the knights, united the people and spearheaded an effort to bring peace to the land.

Transformation of the Land

  • Hunting the Beasts: Under the unified banner of The Order, the knights launched a crusade against the monstrous creatures of Caliban. Over decades, they cleared the forests of many of the most dangerous beasts, taming the land and allowing settlements to expand.
  • A Fragile Peace: Though the great beasts no longer dominate the land as they once did, Caliban remains a perilous place. The forests still hold pockets of corruption, and whispers persist of creatures untouched by the knights’ crusade.
