Race Relations/Roles

Across Darnolia live many different races of people. Different races have different relations with one another and tend to cooperate one way or another.

Aasimars

Aasimars are the opposites of tieflings. Due to their holy origins, many religious folks may see an aasimar as some type of prophet of their god. While some aasimars embrace their reputations by gaining governmental power, others may try to shy away from unneeded attention by hiding any defining traits they may possess. Most aasimars tend to look like humans, with only a few minor variable defining traits such as pupil-less eyes, pale skin, golden hair, etc.

Dragonborn

Dragonborn tend to live in their own clans and strive for self-sufficiency, self-worth, and honor. Many dragonborn are very strong in both mind and body. Due to their prowess, many countries appoint them to take the roles of military leaders, thanks to their bravery and strength. Due to their power, dragonborn that live outside their clans are generally respected, as other races will know that a violent dragonborn is something that no one wants to deal with head-on. At the same time, their pragmatism and honor is very well respected. Tynarian dragonborn tend to have scales that match the color of their draconic ancestors to some degree. Horns are relatively uncommon but tails are extremely rare. Most people have never seen a dragonborn with a full tail.

Dwarves

Dwarves are well known to be very skilled craftsmen, smiths, and creators. Dwarves tend to either live in their own rocky settlements or live within human settlements where they can both sell and show off their works. They try to stay friendly to other races, but may come off as abrasive due to their long lives and eyes for perfection. The ones that have lived in their reclusive settlements for a majority of their lives can tend to be intentionally abrasive to outsiders, but not all are like so. Seeking to spread the love of their craft, certain dwarves willingly leave their homes in order to show and teach other races the art of smithing and crafting.

Elves

Many elves tend to live in elf-only settlements. These elven settlements are usually built in forests and are usually guarded to make sure "unrefined outsiders" don't try to cause trouble within. Due to the fact that elves live in such isolated settlements with so little outside contact, many of them tend to form a superiority complex towards other races. Elves that don't live in these settlements tend to find themselves in other cities and towns, yet still keep to themselves. Their love for art and nature constantly makes them appear pompous to other races, especially to dwarves.   The subrace of drow elves are generally a different case. Many drow tend to live in dark caves and/or in the underdark, where shady and often evil acts are done against those they seek out. Drow have their own ideas of beauty and art, many of which lean towards some very questionable content. The handful of drow that exist outside of the underdark tend to either keep a very lower profile or will make their presence well known to those around them. Many people tend to view drow elves with suspicion that they may be plotting something. Drow Elvish is spoken like a dialect. While most people fluent in Elvish can understand Drow Elvish, it may require some more comprehension.

Gnomes

The enigmatic gnome is an odd one. Contrary to popular belief, Darnolia has a pretty plentiful number of gnomes. Finding them is just a bit tricky. Gnomes themselves are crafty and innovative. Magic and technology make up the general interests of gnomes. Some gnomes live in their forested homes while others tend to live in larger cities where others can learn about their findings of knowledge. Other races don't have much issues with gnomes, as they are rarely ever seen as actual threats, though some may think they're a bit obnoxious with their puns and jokes. The major and obvious exception to this would be the relations between gnomes and kobolds. Gnomes will try to avoid kobolds at all cost and kobolds are always extremely hostile towards gnomes.

Goliaths

The large and imposing giant-blood goliath can be found on the highest mountaintops of the continent. Goliaths form small villages with each member holding a specific role in the community. Goliaths are very physically strong, as their hostile living environments call for it. The stronger the person, the more respect they earn from their fellow kin. Many outsiders tend to tense up and be wary of goliaths. Angering or challenging a goliath is the last thing any average person would want to do. Many goliaths, in turn, have to both physically and mentally look down at individuals they deem to be weak. When a goliath chooses to leave their mountain homes, they usually take up jobs either as an adventurer or take up any other physically-demanding job. Male goliaths are mostly hairless, with most men having super short head hair and facial hair growing no more than a centimeter or two. Female goliaths however do grow full sets of head hair.

Halflings

Halflings are generally well-liked by all people. They can live pretty much anywhere and no one will really mind all that often. Their kind hearts and down-to-earth natures can make them be friends to all of their surrounding folks. Halflings, like humans, can take a multitude of roles in society. Halflings tend to prefer the simpler jobs such shop-keeping or farming, though some more aspiring halflings may take up more complex jobs like government roles or adventuring.

Half-Elves

Half-elves are generally seen to be far more human than elf. To almost all races, except other elves, half-elves are just humans with pointed ears. As such, most half-elves are treated like humans, usually with very little regard to their elven heritage. Thus, most half-elves tend to live either on the road or in human-majority settlements where they take up the standard roles in society. Some folks may think they may be scheming with some hidden elf faction, but most others just treat them as slightly unique humans. Elves, on the other hand, tend to treat half-elves with suspicion and see them as lesser elves, much to the dismay of the half-elf.

Half-Orcs

Half-orcs frequently tend to get the short end of the stick in many societies. Large cities may view half-orcs with suspicion, but the main issues arise in smaller towns and villages. This is especially prominent in towns that may've had a history with orc raids. In these towns, prejudice against half-orcs are more common than one would hope to be. Half-orcs may be denied service or even be straight-up kicked out of the premises over the slightest suspicious act. Due to their might and strength though, half-orcs frequently enlist in their local militaries where they can put their great strength to use.

Humans

Humans make up a large majority of the continent. Humans are everywhere and can take up any type of role or position in society. Some are artisans, some are soldiers, some are farmers, etc. It's hard to pinpoint what humans truly are like. Different humans have different views on other races. The humans of Darnolia tend to have brown or blonde hair and have fair skin tones. The further north one goes, the lighter their skin tones are and vice versa with the south.

Human Mixes

There are a variety of other races out there that look human, but further inspection will give the real answer. The following races that are considered to be human mixes include, but aren't limited to: Changelings, Genasi, Kalashtar, and Shifters. These races are incredibly rare and really only ever come into existence under specific and/or rare circumstances. A human couple can very much spawn a child that is actually one of the listed races, though the chances are astronomically rare. They can also come from different planes of existences or might've been banished from an alternate universe such as Ebberon or the Forgotten Realms. Human mixes get different viewpoints depending on where they are. The ones without any physical differences like the kalashtar and changelings are usually assumed to be human and are treated as such until other events come into play. The ones with more physical differences will generally be viewed with mild intrigue, but usually never getting close to prejudice simply due to their rarity.

Tieflings

Tieflings always tend to have suspicious and/or fearful eyes laid upon them. Tieflings are notoriously known to be related to the demons and devils of the hellish outer planes, despite the fact that they are mortal and only rarely possess limited amounts of magic. With the exception of the ones who live in large cities, most tieflings tend to live in the fringes of society or, more commonly, on the road. Despite their not-so-nice bloodline, some people have a unique fondness over tieflings, probably due to their forbidden upbringings that may make them more attractive to thrill-seekers and rule-breakers.

Warforged

Warforged are rare enough to be considered unique, but are not always seen as a major threat. As such, most warforged will usually just get quick glances from nearby folks, but direct confrontation is rare. Many warforged come from the magical tech city of Thorcester City, Talimo. That is the place where their personality cores, and sometimes bodies, are created. While most warforged have human levels of sentience, a small minority of them are built without one and are promptly used to do manual labor that most other people wouldn't do. Every single functioning warforged has a unique 4-digit serial code printed on them, serving as an identifier for mechanics and artificers. If one does not have a serial code, it is considered rogue and/or non-functioning. Warforged that do not have a full body are usually stuck in a spherical core body, interestingly known as a coreforged. These coreforged still have sentience and personalities and are usually stationed to do non-physical jobs such as entertainment and secretarial work.
Disclaimer: There will be exceptions to everything written here. Not all people from a race will be the exact same. Some will deviate from the norm one way or another.   Notice: Not all races are listed here. The ones on this list are the races that have a prominent-enough existence to be recognized by the common folk. Races that are either not native to the continent or are extremely rare are usually unnoticed by people and/or treated from person to person.
