Equipment in the Roman Empire

Most equipment in the Roman Empire is equivalent to standard equipment found in the D&D sourcebooks, with the following alterations:

Weapons

  • The short sword is called a gladius (used by Roman Infantry)
  • The longsword is called a spatha (used by Roman Cavalry)
  • The sickle is called a falx (used by Roman civilians)
  • Hand crossbows do not exist

Armor

  • Light armor is as in the Player’s Handbook.
  • Medium armor is as in the Player’s Handbook except: Half Plate does not exist.
  • Heavy armor is as in the Player’s Handbook except: Plate Mail does not exist. Instead, Lorica segmentata ("Segmented Armor") has the same stats as Plate Mail.
  • The shield from the Player’s Handbook is called a "Large Shield" (used by Roman Infantry)
  • A small shield exists: costs 5 gp, +1 to AC, weighs 3 lbs (used by mercs/civilians/cavalry)
