Lucky Grain Festival

The Lucky Grain Festival was started after a rather poor farmer was unable to properly store his grain which resulted in fermentation. The grain had been written off as a loss after being ruined in an uncommonly violent thunderstorm. Months later the townsfolk noticed the children acting strangely and vomitting all over the town square. Once the children were able to explain what had happened, it was discovered that the discarded grain had fermented into alcohol.   After the town elders had scolded the children for drinking unknown liquids. It was decided that once a year, everyone who could hold a cup, was allowed to drink as much as they wanted for one week, in order to teach children about the effects of alcohol.   The festival has become more of a right of passage for the children in the town, because after their first festival, they are then removed from the minimal schooling provided and assigned jobs on one of the local farms.

The Festival starts with all farm owners bringing every cask of grain alcohol prepared for the festival to the town square, and setting them on display for all the townsfolk to see. Every inhabitant over the age of 9 is then given a mug. As long as they have their mug, they are able to eat and drink as much as they want through the end of the week at which time, all mugs must be returned to be stored for the next year.

Grain Alcohol

Farm owners are expected to provide a supply of grain alcohol according to their acreage. Most farm owners have taken to competing with each other over who can distil the best alcohol.  The Town Elder has taken on the mantle of judging all entries to award a winner in multiple catagories such as; Strongest Alcohol, Tastiest Alcohol, and Smoothest Alcohol.

The Lucky Grain Festival is held once a year after the last grain harvest, allowing all field hands and townsfolk a full week off of work.   All citizens aged 9 and above are allowed to participate.
