The Adran Antithesis
An ancient machine of unknown make, the Antithesis is certainly an artifact from the Dawning Days, possibly earlier. Whoever its creator was, they had immense power over the workings of the universe. The Antithesis hums with power, and this vibrato can be felt in the bones of observers. The intended use of the Antithesis is unknown, and it is currently in use at the center of Adran power as an anti-magic mechanism. The influence of the crystalline sphere deadens the touch of arcane magic within the city's boundaries.
Scholars have examined the Antithesis closely over the years, but none have been able to determine the object's true nature. Some hypothesize that it is a gift from a supernal being, one long lost to time and history, possibly even one of the ancient Word-Gods who created the universe. Others make a claim that it was a defensive (or offensive) technology left behind by the primordials when they were defeated after the People's War.
Access & Availability
The Antithesis is under close guard by the Adran Legion of Thunder, and the Palatine of Adra was constructed around it. Reaching the Antithesis to view it is a feat of extreme stupidity or luck.
The only accounts made available on the Antithesis are heavily edited by government officials, and no one knows to what degree those accounts have been altered.
Discovery
Discovered in the mid-to-late Cycle of Heaven, the Antithesis was investigated first by the gods Math Mathonwy and Nemain, who were convinced that it was a powerful object with myriad uses. Strangely, the gods of magic abandoned their study abruptly, leaving mortals to delve into the secrets of the device.
