Glowbes

Glowbes are the small, glowing orbs found inside the Glowfish. They come in many different colors, all perfectly round, and all of them roughly a half-inch in diameter. They're a very popular food among the people of Lapiza, with many families eating a portion of them at least once a week. They're very rubbery when raw, but they should not be consumed this way. They are quite harmful when eaten directly from the glowfish and can make a person very sick. To be able to safely consume them, they have to be cooked to about 200 degrees Fahrenheit for a full minute to fully remove any toxins within them. This process also removes their bioluminescence and dulls their color. Once brought up to this temperature, they can be used in any dish or as a dish all on their own. By themselves, they have a slightly salty and savory taste but are otherwise flavorless, and have a smooth, tender, and squishy texture. People will often use them in soups, salads, pastas, and tapenades. If cooked in a marinade, they will take on the flavor as they cook, resulting in a much larger range of flavors.

Manufacturing process

Glowbes have to be heated to a boiling temperature to be safe for consumption. They can be boiled, baked, steamed, fried, grilled, or any manner of cooking, as long as they reach 200 degrees Fahrenheit. It all depends on the recipe, but the most common ways to prepare a serving of glowbes are in salads, stews/soups, or just by themselves.

Significance

Glowbes are a cultural staple in the nation of Lapiza. They're found in nearly every home for at least one meal per week. Families living off the shores with easier access to them will usually include them in more than half of their meals.

Rarity
Glowbes aren't exactly rare, but they're not found just anywhere. An average glowfish has enough glowbes inside to count as one serving. To feed the average family, you'd need four of them for one meal. Though fishermen do catch a great deal of them in just one net, due to the glowfish's small size. Because of this, they're considered both a delicacy and a staple food.
Dimensions
On average: 1/2" diameter sphere
