Vanhome
Named for the unified people of the North who were themselves named for the late chief of the Snow Tribe Vanhome is the seat of the North, a city built as a place from which to govern the newly united peoples of the uncivilized regions north of Veria and Kohst. It is a bustling boom-town built on the acumen and reputation of its king.
Vanhome is the home of a busy trading port and the White Fortress from which King Vrom rules the Northern empire from the Ivory Throne.
Demographics
The body of the population of Vanhome is mad up of Dragon Men who have moved north though there are also large numbers of High-North tribals including True Vanites as well as foreigners who have come to see the capitol of the young empire.
Government
Vanhome is an absolute monarchy and the seat of the throne, but local matters are handled by an appointed mayor.
Defences
Vanhome has many warriors including a host of trained guards, the head of a sailing fleet, the stables of the Spiring Knights and the White Fortress of the North. It is the most defended settlement North of the Verian and Kohstian southern border regions and west of Avalon.
Industry & Trade
Valuable resources traded in Vanhome include timber, fish, iron, salt, and a moderate amount of precious and semi-precious minerals. The city port is open to merchant ships usually arriving from Thul, Avalon, on other settlements in the North.
Guilds and Factions
There are a smattering of miner, metal workers, fisherman's, and merchant's guilds within the city.
The beginnings of an underworld have begun to form in Vanhome but they are wise enough to avoid attracting the notice of the king.
History
Vanhome is a new capitol built only in the last generation to serve as the seat of the united North.
Architecture
Architecture is mainly wood and common stone and left unpainted. Roofs are high and sharply pitched as to shed snow easily. Construction tends to be simplistic and practical but decorative carving on beams an eaves are common.
Geography
Vanhome is founded on a sloping cliff where a stocky shelf fell off into the sea. this puts is slightly above the elevation of the surrounding land while the lower parts of the city still have access to the sea. Otherwise it is founded in one of the flattest areas of the Frozen Coast. It is in an area of the High-North but close enough to the borders of the Low to have summers of deep green.
Natural Resources
Common resources are timber, fish, salt, and iron.
Moderate resources include wool, silver, ivory, agates, black obsidian, and whale oil.
Rare resources include peridots, exotic furs, sea tar, green obsidian, and gold.
