Dragon Men

Fair skinned, fair haired, long bearded, and tall, The Dragon Men of the Low North are known as fearsome warriors, savvy traders, savage pirates, and fierce traditionalists.   Disjointed by broken and difficult terrain, they are largely tribalistic unified only by far distant blood and ancient traditions. War between tribes is common, and no chronicler has recorded a year without bloodshed in the Low North in over one thousand years.

Naming Traditions

Family names

None. Though the sons and daughters of particularly famous warriors may attach their father's name to their own.

Other names

Dragon Men are fond of nicknames earned by deeds or reputation.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Dragon Men speak North Speak, through the accent and colloquialism differ from those of the Iron Tribes.

Common Etiquette rules

Hospitality in one's home is considered a duty to traveling strangers and questions are expected to be answered directly.

Common Dress code

Clothing consists of this wool or gambeson and hair is expected to be kept clean and neat, both hair and beards are often tied or braided. Metallic jewelry is common among the wealthy and not unheard of even among middle status warriors.

Art & Architecture

Building structures tend to be permanent structured made from a combination of stone and wood. Wooden beams are often carved with knotted patterns and scenes of gods and monsters, most often dragons. Painting is unknown but small wood carvings and scrimshaw are common. Woven tapestries are also produced and valued. The most common art form however is sung poetry. Most war bands and raiding parties include at least one practiced skald.

Coming of Age Rites

Young men are expected to undergo some feat of bravery. Due to the vagueness of this ideal the actual process varies wildly. Some will pair off into single combat to a lone extend hunting excursion is the most common method.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Funerals are observed as celebrations, even feasts if the dead was wealthy. Drink and song is observed for a full day regardless of the statue of the dead, be he a king or merely a loyal slave. The disposal of the dead are done in a variety of ways depending on the means and location. Mound burial and cremation are common. The wealthy will often be entombed or burned with their most valuable possessions, leaving their progeny to earn their own fortunes.
