Tria Djono

Initially part of the Free Trian People's Republic, the continent was set aside to be a port of entry into the planet. The Republic's space and sea navies attempt to funnel all incoming and outgoing traffic for the planet through this landmass where the Republic built extensive customs infrastructure to prevent hostile/chaotic persons and substances from entering their territory.   Exiting the continent for other parts of Tria is a notoriously difficult process especially given the Trians' approach to customs which is considered to be unnecessarily complicated by most species. A person's priority in the queue is determined by a great number of things including social status, on-hand wealth, off-hand wealth, amount and types of goods to be imported, planet of origin, criminal history, etc. The queue is almost always in flux as new people arrive or leave the continent and are deemed higher/lower priority by the ineffable customs clerks. The long waits due to the ever changing queue are also what inevitably turned the continent into the society it is today. Towns and eventually cities formed around the displaced travellers to provide goods/services while they waited and soon a thriving multi-species society began to form.   Acknowledging that the continent was transitioning away from its original role as a temporary stop-over point into an increasingly diverse society, the Republic decided to declare the continent a Protectorate of the Republic under the name of Tria Djono, which in Gnomish translates to "Tria Customs". The citizens of the new protectorate found this to be a rather uninspired name for a nation and many parodic names began floating around the populace, the most notable being the human variant "Triage, Oh No!" mocking the plight of travelers at the mercy of the customs clerks for deciding how soon they can actually access the planet.
