Myconids
Basic Information
Anatomy
Myconids come in a wide range of physical shapes and sizes that each are tuned for specific skills and abilities but all are, at their base, fungal organisms.
Genetics and Reproduction
Not publically known at this time.
Ecology and Habitats
Myconid communities have, thus far, only been encountered in subterranean tunnels.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Similar to non-sophont fungus, myconids appear to gain sustenance from breaking down deceased organisms. However, the species has somewhat industrialized this process and many myconids do not need to feed directly on a deceased organism but rather obtain food that has been processed elsewhere and stored in forms convenient for storage and easy distribution.
Behaviour
Individual behaviour can vary widely but, as a community, myconids appear to be highly protective of their territory and rather isolationist, preferring to rely on their own carefully crafted ecosystem rather than integrate with other sophont communities. Prominent myconids often exhibit airs of superiority over other sophont species.
Myconids tend to be quick to neutralize any interlopers into their territory, assuming all creatures are threatening until proven otherwise. If mid-level myconids perceive that an invading creature is a rational being, they may attempt to pause their violence to communicate with the creature and determine if it is more advantageous to let the creature live.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Few details are publically known at this time. There appears to be some kind of hierarchy within myconid communities with the highest ranking myconid assuming the title of "Grand Mycol".
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Myconids tend to have one or more photosensory spots, primarily on their caps, that are often difficult to distinguish to an outsider from other, purely cosmetic, spots. Most myconids do not have auditory senses although some varieties have been observed to exhibit a "tremorsense". Most myconids appear to have some sense of touch as they feel pain in response to injury. Spore generator and receptor organs are the myconids' primary means of communication amongst themselves and, via specialized "telepathy" spores, with non-myconids.
Civilization and Culture
Average Technological Level
Not publically known at this time.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Myconids have at least one native, spore-based language. Certain myconids are also able to generate "telepathy" spores that allow them to mentally communicate with other sophonts in their native language.
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
Some larger myconids opt to wear clothing that appears reminiscent of Trian clothing, especially styles that were common on Tria prior to the Feln occupation. Higher ranking myconids may flaunt their status by wearing shiny jewellery.
