Pragmia

A core dish for meals in Nuxis, pragmia consists of boiled and mashed roots from the Gathirath plant, seasoned with leaves and seeds from the same plant.

History

For as long as there have been people in Nuxis, pragmia has been at the heart of every meal. It isn't clear who came up with it in the first place since every community lays claim to it's creation. While the base recipe is common everywhere, almost every family has their own slight variations in seasonings with the exact recipes passed down as closely guarded secrets.   What is clear is that the recipe was developed as the only safe way to eat the gathirath since the roots are poisonous unless cooked with the chopped leaves. The dish was consumed for hundreds if not thousands of years before a group of outsiders linked it to Lightblight. The revelation that their favourite food caused their eyes to turn red, and skin to react to the sun was met with indifference by the people of Nuxis who happily continued to make this a feature of every meal.

Significance

Pragmia is eaten with almost every meal in Nuxis. Sometimes it is the entirety of the meal, especially when other food stuffs are in short supply. The basic ingredients keep well if stored correctly, so it is frequently the last thing available, especially after a hard winter. As a meal it provides virtually all the nutrition needed to keep people healthy and omitting it from a meal is taken as an insult within Nuxis.
