Dayveil
These heavy veils are used by the people of Nuxis to shield themselves from the sun.
The veils consist of a wide brimmed hat made of straw, and a piece of cotton cloth that hangs from the brim and is secured to clothing at the neck . The hat is held in place with a strap that is secured below the chin.
History
Before the adoption of these veils the people of Nuxis were forced to rely on heavy hoods to protect themselves from the harsh light of the sun. While he hoods worked to a limited extent, they restricted vision and something as simple as tripping could expose the head, resulting in burns. A Soilkin known as Eras Wain grew sick of the inconvenience (especially after nearly being struck by a blight attacking from the side) and devoted decades to coming up with an alternative.
It wasn’t until Eras learned of a new plant fibre that one village was starting to use to make clothing that he started to make progress. Since the village was without a Soilkin, Eras took up residence and helped with cutlivating the cotton. The new cotton veils Eras created proved popular and spread across Nuxis, becoming a core part of Nuxian attire.
Significance
While created to serve a practical purpose, the veils became a central part of Nuxian culture. The presentation of a child's first veil marks the point where they are considered trustworthy enough to be outside on their own, and marriage ceremonies involve the exchanging of new veils. Each veil is created for a specific person and no Nuxian would even consider wearing another's veil.
Along with other clothing that covers the entire body these veils help protect those afflicted with Lightblight. The veils allow for enough vision to do most tasks, though in some cases work must be left to children who have not yet developed the reaction to sunlight.
