Beacons of Comprehension
These objects were created by Zaciseid to delay the transformation of the Seidilin.
Each beacon stands about 7ft high and consists of a stone platform atop which sits a metal structure. This structure consists of a ten pointed start inside of which are series of nested rings. Each ring is joined to the adjacent rings at two points allowing them to rotate freely. When the beacons are enchanted the rings constantly spin.
Development
When Zaciseid created the Seidilin it was disappointed by the amount of time they remained in their more useful infant form. Attempts to extend the infant period through further manipulating the creatures proved unsuccessful so Zaciseid tried a different tactic - an ongoing transmutation spell. The spell approach worked to an extent in that it could delay the creatures' metamorphosis but it wasn't feasible to keep casting the spell on all of the seidilin. An obvious answer was to create magical items but the ongoing effort that would require was more than Zaciseid was willing to put in. However, with Zaciseid's unparalled intellect it wasn't long before an alternative occurred. A limited number of magical artefacts could be created which would act as central points for the spells. These beacons could be used to power receivers which wouldn't need to be directly enchanted, greatly reducing the amount of enchanting involved. Better yet, the receivers could be crafted by some of Zaciseid's more skilled minions. Trials of various designs were placed in different seidilin settlements and the results observed. Some designs worked better than others though each provided new information for Zaciseid. In the end the final design for both the beacons and the amulets was based on both the success of the spells and aesthetics.
