Jehera

Jehera is a jungle/cityscape planet located in the middle rim of the Janya Galaxy. It is widely known as a trade hub, with factories and shipping centers making up 90% of the planet's income. Some consider it to be a wealthy planet, others consider it as poor.

Geography

Jehera is an interesting case, as it was originally a jungle planet, covered entirely by tropical forest, but cities grew larger and larger until over 50% of the surface is now city. However, the city has since stopped growing. Sectors and districts remain virtually unchanged but for occasional alterations. The metropolis of Jehera sprawls in intricate designs without bleeding into the jungle.   The cityscape itself is a strangely beautiful mix of skyscrapers, factories, houses, and roads. There is no rhyme or reason to its design. Streets and sectors are named after various things, often historical figures, events, or animals. The planet's inhabitants learn early on how to navigate these streets.

Natural Resources

Jehera's jungles are off-limits to both inhabitants and tourists. All of the planet's income is provided by shipping centers and factories. Many companies use Jehera as a production location. One of Jehera's largest companies is a prosperous textiles company created several hundred years ago.

History

Jehera was discovered around 400 BPC. At first, it was a relatively backwater planet, despite being placed along a common trade route. As time passed, the city grew, spreading across the planet's surface like a spiderweb. Factories sprang up, companies were started, spaceports were built, shipping centers launched into operation, and Jehera joined the IPA in 22 APC after its anti-slavery decree with a fully-formed trade system ready to contribute to the galaxy's commerce.   Currently, Jehera is one of the galaxy's main centers for trade. There are over six dozen companies that use Jehera as a main location. Most companies have wealthy owners who take a percentage of profits but hand management over to a council or board. The owners often have influence over the council or are allowed to step in for any reason, but most prefer to simply profit. The rest of Jehera’s population either works for these companies or provides services for the general population.

Climate

Jehera's natural climate is still partially that of a jungle planet. However, due to large sectors without native flora, the climate does vary somewhat. In general, the planet follows a few vague seasons. Temperatures rarely drop below 40 degrees Fahrenheit even during "winter" and often rise to 100 during the summer months. Rainfall is frequent, but the inhabitants are used to dealing with it.

Author's Notes

Jehera is a minor setting in the story, it's visited only once and only briefly, so I made most of this up as I wrote. I'm pretty sure I repeated myself a few times and I'm not super pleased with the layout, but I am happy to have another article out.
