Celestial War
The Celestial War was a legendary, almost mythical war that occurred in 5000 BPC. It was a devastating event that killed nearly all the Celestials and Eternals who are currently deceased, as well as thousands of mortals. Many planets in the Interplanetary Peace Alliance believe the Celestial War was a fictitious event much like the Celestials themselves, but evidence has been found that a war on a scale similar to what is described in legend truly occurred.
that Love revealed a vision she had many years ago, one that showed the Commander killing Celosia. Love had not dared to believe it, but her suspicions were all but confirmed now. She sent a message across the galaxy, announcing what had happened and summoning all Celestials to support her.
The journal's writer describes flashes of the battle. Conri and a pack of wolves tore through enormous stretches of the Dark Celestials' army. A pair of sister Celestials fought alongside each other until one of them was hit by a spell and collapsed. The first day was when most of the fighters died, when the world collapsed into ruins of death and destruction, when it was clear this war would destroy each participant's desire to live. And yet still, they refused to
The women did not speak, but the Dark Celestial turned away first and allowed her Light Celestial sister to pull the soldier to his feet and take him to her side. It is here that the writer switches sides, as he is cared for by this woman, Merci, Celestial of forgiveness. When the night is over, he stands beside different soldiers and watches only the Eternals fight. Three figures stand with each other in the center of the field. One swings a scythe. One collapses. One disappears into darkness. And then the battle is done.
and Eternals remember now and their memories have haunted them since. It is unlikely any of them will ever be able to forget the nightmare they lived through.
Why would you want to learn about the war? It was awful enough when we lived it. Why should I relive it for you? Go away.
Prelude
Almost from the beginning of Celestial society, there were two camps within the main body of the Celestials, the Light Celestials and the Dark Celestials. The Light Celestials followed the direction of Love, while the Dark Celestials called the Commander their leader. Love and the Commander did not get along, causing tension, struggle, and even hostility between the twogroups. Despite Love's disapproval of his marriage to her friend Celosia, the Celestial of fire's presence united the two groups. Her death disrupted it, and the Commander's withdrawal from Celestial society did not help matters.
The scales tipped when Rohana, daughter of Celosia and the Commander, escaped her father's palace and sought shelter with Love. She told the other Celestials that her father had taken in another daughter and refused to acknowledge her as his child. It was then
Deployment
The news reached the ears of every Celestial and Eternal still living. Within days everyone was moving. The Light Celestials rallied to Love's side, while the Dark defended the Commander. As the Celestials split down the middle, several went missing. Séverin and Agramon were two and were later marked dead. Seven others, including Felicia, Nicole, and Cronus, remained out of the fray.
Celestials with strong followings brought armies with them. Eternals from all across the galaxy came together. The lines were drawn, the sides chosen, and all that remained was the battle to come.
Flora will not be fighitng. She is not strong enough. I do not want my youngest child in this war.
The Engagement
Little is known about the battle itself or what happened during the two days the war took place. Almost no mortals survived, and those who did were sworn or spelled to secrecy. Only the surviving Celestials and Eternals could remember the events and few of them described their experiences. However, a single journal has been found in the Kersar Library, written by a human soldier who fought first for the Dark Celestials and then for the Light. The journal describes only pieces and parts of the battle, ones the writer witnessed firsthand as well as several he was told about later. He says the beginning of the war was silent, and the way the armies calmly lined up and prepared was almost picture-perfect. When they clashed, everything became chaos. His patron, whose name he never mentions, had imbued him and his fighters with strength and endurance, which allowed them to fight for much longer than they should have.
surrender. A girl cradled the face of her closest friend, her ever-present smile gone forever. A man on the opposite side of his friend pulled her away from her husband's body. A mother ripped another woman apart after her son's death. The soldier who narrated the events huddled on the ground as the sky began to darken and two women approached from either side of him and stared each other down.
Xuena looked back at the man in front of her, at the blood soaking his shirt and trickling out of his mouth, and stumbled back. The light faded from Jordan’s eyes and she felt his aura disappear just like Haides’ had.
Outcome
The Commander killed them all, and then he killed his sister, letting Death take her to the next world. But with her final breath, Love cursed her brother and banished him from their world, tying his existence to the despair in the world. In her fear of death, she tied his defeat to the Nine Guardians.
The battle ended with no victor. Both Love and the Commander had died, with Love sacrificing herself to banish her brother to another realm. Her spell would not hold him forever, and so came the prophecy of the Commander's Return. Alvacia, who had taken the Commander's side during the war, declared an end to the fighting. The armies disbanded and returned to their homes, scattering across the galaxy to cope with the traumas they had endured.
Aftermath
With two more pre-generation Celestials gone, the world kept a precarious balance. But the truth was unavoidable: sixteen Celestials died during the war or just before it. Twenty-three Celestials in total have died over the course of history. Two-thirds of them died during the war along with dozens of other Eternals and thousands of mortals brought by their leaders. The Celestials who survived often remarked on how different the world was after the war. Some Celestials carried on with their lives as if nothing changed. Some grew colder, harder, darker. Others became desperate to keep any semblance of happiness they could find. The third and fourth generations who came after the war listened to these stories but could never understand them. They had never seen their seniors and superiors before the war and they did not know what had changed. They had never met the people whose loss had so disrupted the world.
As the millennia passed, the effects of the Celestial War left less of an impact on society. Mortals who participated and survived eventually died and took their experiences with them. Only the Celestials

Strength
The Light Celestials had numbers on their side, as well as healing magic. They had one pre-generation Celestial and about thirty other Celestials. They also had almost thirty Eternals.
The Dark Celestials had a smaller army, but their fighters were much stronger. They had two pre-generations on their side and about thirty other Celestials and ten Eternals.
Casualties
Over two-thirds of the Light Celestial army, including Love, ten other Celestials, and fifteen Eternals, were killed.
About half of the Dark Celestial army was destroyed and four Celestials as well as the Commander were killed.
Objectives
To defeat the Commander and prevent him from killing any more Celestials.
To defend the Commander against Love and the Light Celestials.
Battlefield
The Celestial War is believed to have taken place on Eküiliber, a planet associated with all Celestials, but especially the Commander. Considering the war took place before space travel had fully developed, it is likely that the Eternals and Celestials teleported to the planet with their armies.Mysterious Circumstances
Before the war began, both Séverin, the Celestial of secrets, and Agramon, the Celestial of welcome, disappeared and were later marked as dead. How they died and who killed them are unknown, as are the sides they would have chosen. Séverin likely would have sided with Love, but Agramon's allegiances are unclear. Little is known of him and his two siblings, Ginare and Brianah, both of whom sided with the Dark Celestials. Brianah died during the war, leaving Ginare the only survivor. Because of his sisters' alliance, it is possible that Agramon would have joined the Dark Celestials, but his choice was never made. None of the Celestials admit to killing him. Séverin's death is the most suspicious. As the Celestial of secrets, he knew many things about many Celestials. He was known to be witty and charming, and yet most of his participation in Celestial politics was almost unnoticeable. He spent most of his time in Love's direct circle, slipping out to mingle with a select group of second and third generations. His closest friend was Flora, the youngest daughter of Fadilah. Séverin would have certainly joined the war on Love's side, and his assassination before the war suggests he was taken out before he could use anything he knew to harm the Dark Celestials. She was hysterical when I told her both Mother and Love were dead. It almost seemed as if she started laughing before sobbing. Two of her closest friends, gone in just a few months.
Fourteen Deaths
During the war, fourteen Celestials died. Eight of them were first generations. Three of them were Elementals. Five were Emotionals. A list of all deceased Celestials reads out which died during the war: Fadilah, Celestial of nature; Naida, Celestial of water; Oralia, Celestial of air; Deimena, Celestial of terror; Ella, Celestial of uncertainty; Haides, Celestial of anger; Jordan, Celestial of happiness; Terico, Celestial of sadness; Joseph, Celestial of fatherhood; Rhea, Celestial of motherhood; Brianah, Celestial of bitterness; Besjana, Celestial of dolphins; Nelson, Celestial of octopi; Thora, Celestial of sea storms. Just centuries later, Elara, Celestial of elegance, and Brillo, Celestial of brilliance, were killed. Only four of these deceased Celestials sided with the Dark Celestials. It is believed that the Commander killed the Elementals himself, while a mysterious poem claims that Naida killed Deimena and several sources say that Jordan was killed by Xuena in a fit of rage after Haides died.Remove these ads. You don't have Love or the Commander listed under the fourteen deaths in the sidebar? Is that deliberate. I know the Commander is prophesised to return, but what about Love? Such a sad article. I don't think you can really say that anyone 'won' this war. It makes sense that most Celestials don't want to talk about it.

Love isn't mentioned in the sidebar section because her death is so central to the ending of the Celestial War that no one felt the need to write her on the list. But thank you for pointing it out, I just realized that the number of Celestials who have died throughout history is incorrect. Thank you for reading and commenting. The Celestial War is essential to anything concerning Celestials and I hope to explore that in side stories and additional articles.
