A proud Native American monster-hunting tribe who were forced into a nomadic lifestyle after being driven off their land by the US Army.

Culture

One of Five

The Anappi, also known as the High Paw Tribe is a hunting band part of the Eastern Shoshone. Each band part of this division is named after their geographical location and food source:
  • Kuccuntikka (Buffalo Eaters)
  • Haiwodekanee (Dove Eaters)
  • Anappi (Mountain Wolf Eaters)
  • Tukkutikka (Mountain Sheep Eaters)
  • Boho'inee (Sage Grass)
The Anappi people resided in North-West Wyoming, located specifically in the Yellowstone area.

The First Trappers

The High Paws were one of the most versatile hunters of great predators and monsters in the Great Plains. Traversing extreme conditions and terrain to hunt down large beasts as a source of food. These hunting parties would consist of the clan's strongest warriors who travel days tracking food amongst the plains and forests surrounding Yellowstone.    Not only are they the most determined hunting tribes in Wyoming, but also one of the most resourceful monster hunters left of the Mississippi. Gaining knowledge in herbs, tracks, animal behaviours, and weapons. The Anappi have spent thousands of years being conditioned into the perfect monster hunters. With few of their methods being used today for safety and security.   One of which is primitive variants of using amaranth. High Paw hunters learned how to fend off most monster attacks at night using arrays of small smoke fires smothered in Amaranth, a common deterrent against supernatural beasts, surrounding the native encampments.   The Anappi has also pioneered unique traps such as herd traps, angled stakes in which hunters would herd a beast into, immobilizing them.

Etymology

Anappi is a Shoshone word for 'high peak or mountain top'.   Most Shoshone bands are named after their geographical location and their food source. So another name for Anappi is Mountain Wolf Eaters. The addition of the word 'paw' comes from white settlers describing the tribe's animalistic methods of hunting. Reminiscent of packs of wolves.
