Lionel is the 5th son of the family Van Denst. A renound house of monster slayers. Lionel's future was to be like that of his father Galen Van Denst, or even akin to his Great-Great Grandfather Mazrael Van Denst. Unfortunately, circumstances changed all that.   Lionel began to suspected his own sister, Doraliea, of corruption for some time. His fears proved true when Lionel found her in the midst of an infernal ritual. Attempting to summon an incursion into the heart of the Van Denst Keep. He chose to battle his traitorous kin. Doraliea Van Denst was a foe not to be taken lightly. Had it not been for sheer luck, Lionel knew, he would have not won that day. In the end, he killed his sister.   The Order of the Nephilim, a branch within the slayer's vast organization, were called in to investigate the incident. They unveiled the presence of The Black Blade of Antwyr. An artifact brought to the house of the Van Densts for research and safeguarding. Concluding it to be Doraliea's source of corruption, the Nephilim determined Lionel to be free of malign influence.   Though Lionel had done his duty, tradition stated that he would no longer be a part of the main family. Because of this, and his proven resolve to enact difficult decisions for the greater good, Lionel was given the signet ring of his sister, marking him as a Kinslayer. Thus, formally inducting him into The Order of the Nephilim.   Lionel Van Denst swore to the destruction of the blade that, from his perspective, killed his sister. So, it did not sit well with him when he discovered that the Black Blade had gone missing by the end of the investigation. Holding to his oath, Lionel began his hunt for the artifact. Its trail eventually lead him to Talelland's Antlers. A region of untold dangers, opportunities, and now his ultimate quarry.

The Van Denst family puts their members through intense education. Unfortunately, Lionel's formal training was cut short.
