Red Dragons

The Red Dragons are the first Dwarven Squad, who guard the Southern Border against the Draconians.

Military Power

The Red Dragons are one of the stronger squads, as they need to be to beat back the forces of Bortan. They even have a fake version of the Chief of the time, who must always have the same fighting style and Magic power. They may not be as strong, but they are good enough so that they can show people what that Chief could do.

Command

The Red Dragons are led by a Dwarven General, who is normally not a mage. Sometimes they are to combat the Chief of Bortan, but more often they are just an incredibly skilled combatant. The fake Chief of the squad is often someone up for being the next General of the Red Dragons.

Manpower

The Red Dragons have one of the largest forces of all of the Squads, around 2,500 men and women under their command. These are strong and skilled soldiers who are constantly drilled to be getting better. It is said that a force of Red Dragons could repel even the greatest of invasions, though their focus is on defense, so in terms of leading a siege or invasion, they would likely lag behind some other squads.

Weaponry

The Red Dragons are outfitted with some powerful weapons, made by the Golden Automatons squad, who specialize in making weapons and armor.   Red Dragons soldiers are said to be able to use any weapon, trained in each to be masters of all. It is believed that if a Red Dragons soldier is handed a broom, they could still fight back a Bortanian soldier.

Ebreichzell

Ebreichzell was once a Draconian Village known as Zeldarr, founded by the people of Bortan. It was the site of Impak Daxur's last stand, where he unlocked Fire Magic to fight against the Dwarven General Galmar.   Galmar named the squad he created to take the land back after this terrifying man he fought against. This was the origin of the Red Dragons, who would then go on to defeat Bortan and their new leader, Muldran Draxan. The Dwarven people were happy to get their land back, but more than anything, Galmar was disappointed to not be able to fight against Impak again.   Impak's grave was found, his head exhumed and hung in the Chief Hut of what was now Ebreichzell. The rest of his remains are still in Ebreichzell, honored by the Dwarves as a man who was able to stand up to them.   Ebreichzell is said to produce the best soldiers, which is why most squads send their recruits to train there. They also have many mines nearby, which is why there are many miners in the city. It also explains why many Ebreichzell Dwarves are of larger build, making them greater fighters as well as miners.

Upkeep

The Red Dragons are rather expensive to keep up, as they are constantly needing new weapons, armor, and higher pay due to being in the most dangerous place in Dwarven Territory. Soldiers don't just go to Ebreichzell because of patriotism, but because it pays incredibly well. Some do, of course, go for the patriotism involved, but others know better than to be patriotic for no pay.   The Red Dragons also have to deal with Kath the Eternal, the Golden Dragon Lord, as he resides near Ebreichzell. This requires large tributes of gold, which comes out of the money given to them by the crown. If not for this, Kath has said he would want to give Zeldarr back to the Draconians, as it was a place that worshipped his God, Phrixus, which has become a rare event.

Recruitment

The Red Dragons participate in the ceremony alongside the other Squads to recruit soldiers. The Red Dragons will often pit some of their newer recruits, often soldiers recruited from the previous ceremony, to fight these hopefuls.   Whoever can prove themselves even to be skilled enough in combat to pose a threat is considered for the Red Dragons and is brought in. Anyone who is not considered skilled enough, or who cannot beat a Red Dragon, is not even considered to be brought into the Red Dragons.

Duty

The Red Dragons have one major duty that they are well known for, and some few minor duties that they are less known for.
Their main duty is, of course, to guard the Southern Border of Dwarven territory, mostly from the Draconians in Bortan and any other village who would try to invade. They also often clash with the Wood Elves from the town directly East of Ebreichzell, Syla Anore.   On this border, also, is The World Court, though often the south-western border where they are is simply called the West and left to the Violet Vipers to deal with.
"The Green Ghosts defend the Dwarves from the threat they all fear: Elves. The Red Dragons defend the Dwarves from the threat they'd be best not knowing exists:
The Draconian menace."
— Galmar
Alongside these duties, however, the Red Dragons have further responsibilities. To guard and aid the miners of Ebreichzell and other nearby mines is the first thing. While Dwarven territory does not have too many natural threats roaming around it, there are still some. The lack of threats is also why one will find bandits around waiting to steal ore from the miners as well. Therefore, Red Dragons soldiers often fight bandits.   The land around Ebreichzell is said to be the home of Kath the Eternal, and due to this the Red Dragons have to deal with him often. He charges people money to save them, and when he helps out the Red Dragons, he charges them as well. Still, they appreciate his help.   What they do not appreciate is the fact that his presence attracts many other Dragons to lay eggs around Ebreichzell, thinking that Kath will protect their young. Sometimes he does, while other times the Red Dragon soldiers are able to find the eggs or the newly hatched Dragons and get rid of them before Kath finds them. Still, if Kath does protect them, it is normally on the Red Dragons soldiers, sometimes with the aid of Bortan and the Wood Elves or some other Dwarven Squads, to kill the Dragons before they get too old and too strong.
