Perch of the Moon

Watchers on the Tower

A watchtower found within the Elven Forest, the Perch of the Moon is the central location where the Elven Guard may keep watch over encroaching Dwarven forces. It is named for the prime location it is in, for they say Selene's Moon stops for a second overhead, granting them some of her protection in exchange for their services.

Camor's Watchtower

The Perch of the Moon is at the same latitude as the High Elven capital city of Camor, and it is this fact that reveals its true purpose (at least according to most who believe they know the inner workings of Elven politics and military strategy).   The Nerifir royals do not care if the forest itself is invaded: it has never worked well for the invading forces. What they intend to stop is any enemies reaching Camor itself, where they set in their keep safe from all harm. The Perch of the Moon exists to warn them of forces that may be entering the forest near to Camor so that the Corps D'armée may scramble fast enough to keep them away.   For this reason, the Perch of the Moon is well-manned and well-maintained. It must never fall into ruin, and it must always have skilled warriors and watchful eyes in and around it.   A small town of Wood Elves is nearby, known as Usahil. As it is in a prime location for Dwarven invasion, few Wood Elves live there, but some stick to their traditions and refuse to abandon their ancestral homes. The residents of Usahil house the Perch's soldiers, feed them, and protect them from the dangers of the woods. They also often die in their stead, as they are the first ones in danger, and the priority of the soldiers is to warn Camor. They are under strict orders from the crown to not cause chaos in Usahil, as the slaughter or feeble defense attempt of the residents may buy time for the Elven Guard to arrive. This was only an assumed order until Daeric Nerifir made it official. No subsequent King has rescinded it, but Usahil's residents remain proud and remain in their homes, even as their numbers dwindle.
