The lost isles of Osao
Summary
Long ago there was a mighty king , Shen Xing Shao, who ruled over the richest and largest nation in the world, the Kingdom of Osao. His prosperity brought many visitors to his land, however when he was visited by the venari Nitri he felt his divine providence questioned. So he decided to challenge Nitri to many tasks to prove he was just as good or better than any self proclaimed god.
Depending on where the story is told, there are two splits from here. One telling is that Shen lost challenge after challenge as the god of trickery will always outsmart a mortal. After this, Nitri left Shen with a gift for his bravery in challenging her and the fun she had beating him. This infuriated Shen and he used the gift with its divine powers to kill Nitri. When the other venari heard of this they decided to punish Shen by sinking his entire kingdom beneath the waves.
The second telling is that Shen managed to win challenge after challenge, outsmarting and humiliating Nitri at every turn. Not being known for good sportsmanship, Nitri cursed Shen in retaliation that neither him nor any inhabitants of his kingdom would ever be visible again so he could never again bask in vain glory.
Historical Basis
Deep delving into historical documents has uncovered mentions of an "Osao," an island nation most likely located around the outer equator, although where exactly it was and whether it has any relevance to the story remain unknown.
Recently a new chain of islands has been discovered on the outer equator that seems to have an indigenous population already, so adventurers have taken to calling it Osao after the stories.
