The Undercity Unearthed

In 1366 DR, a structural collapse in the Gith Quarter revealed a hidden chamber buried deep beneath the Citadel. Initial assessments by the Cartographers’ Collective suggested that the ruins predated even the Gith’s arrival, sending shockwaves through both scholarly and political circles. The site contained remnants of stonework and inscriptions in an unknown language, as well as crystalline artifacts pulsing with faint magical energy. Some believed this could be evidence of the original civilization that built the Citadel, while others feared disturbing it could awaken something best left forgotten.

The discovery immediately triggered political tension between the Gith, the Arcane Keystone Guild, and various cultural scholars over who had rightful access to the site. Yeonido’s celestial emissaries warned against excavating further, fearing that disturbing the ruins could disrupt the city's balance. Despite these warnings, unauthorized dig teams breached a sealed chamber, causing a surge of magical energy that temporarily destabilized the Citadel’s planar connection. After a month of intense debate, the Speakers for the Ancestors restricted excavation rights, sealing portions of the site. However, interest in the ruins never faded, and many believe they hold secrets about the true origins of the Citadel.
