The Blazing Dispute

In 1392 DR, a long-standing ideological divide between Tayyib’s Divine Advisory Councils and San Citlán’s spirit-worshipping traditions erupted into open conflict. For years, theological leaders from both civilizations debated the role of divine will versus ancestral guidance in governance. The dispute escalated when a sacred archive in San Citlán, containing irreplaceable records of ancestral spirit rituals, was set ablaze in an act of retaliation. The fire spread rapidly, threatening neighboring structures before it was extinguished by a combined effort of Ataguan druids and Tletepecan flamecallers.

The incident led to widespread civil unrest, as religious factions across the Citadel took sides, turning temples and public forums into battlegrounds for theological debate. The Speakers for the Ancestors were forced to intervene, implementing a formal interfaith reconciliation process. This resulted in the Legal Charter of Spiritual Sovereignty, which established protections for all faiths within the Citadel and outlined new dispute resolution methods. The crisis deepened mistrust between faith-driven and secular factions, with lasting effects on how religious institutions interacted with governance.
