The Curse of the Seven Lanterns

In 1450 DR, an ambitious restoration project sought to relight the historic Seven Lanterns of the Radiant Citadel, ancient enchanted streetlights that had remained dark since before the city’s rediscovery. The project, spearheaded by Zinda’s Arcane Keystone Guild and Yongjing’s philosophers, was meant to symbolize cultural unity and historical preservation. However, when the lanterns were reignited, they triggered an unforeseen magical event, awakening something long thought lost—the Sapphire Wyvern, a Dawn Incarnate that had never reawakened.

Across the city, visions of the past flickered into existence—ghostly figures walked ancient streets, and cryptic whispers filled the air. Scholars and spirit mediums from Yeonido, Djaynai, and Tayyib attempted to decipher the messages, believing them to be a warning. Some saw glimpses of a forgotten civilization, one that may have predated even the founding civilizations of the Citadel. Others experienced strange dreams of an event known only as “the Vanishing,” a possible reference to how the Sapphire Wyvern was lost.   After weeks of study, the visions gradually faded, leaving behind more questions than answers. Some believe the Sapphire Wyvern’s presence lingers within the Citadel, watching, waiting for its story to be fully uncovered. In response, the Speakers enacted a moratorium on further magical restoration efforts related to pre-fall artifacts, fearing the consequences of unlocking deeper secrets. However, many scholars and treasure hunters continue their search in secret, convinced that the Wyvern’s fate is tied to the very origins of the Radiant Citadel itself.
