The Unseen Storm

Military: Skirmish

1461DR
1461DR

In 1461 DR, a series of unexplained disappearances and flickering distortions in the Citadel’s planar barrier raised alarms among scholars and planar navigators. Investigations led by the Field Naturalists and Cartographers’ Collective uncovered a terrifying truth—the Keening Gloom, an ancient entity long thought to be merely an eternal storm, was actively testing the Citadel’s defenses.

Unlike previous incursions, where small-scale anomalies were quickly contained, this time the Gloom’s influence began seeping into the lower districts, causing distortions where reality itself wavered. Structures flickered between different time states, and eerie wails echoed in empty streets. The Dawn Incarnates themselves stirred, issuing cryptic warnings about a presence seeking entry.   A covert operation led by Speakers from Tayyib, Dayawlongon, and Shankhabhumi attempted to push back the incursion by stabilizing the planar boundaries. However, they soon discovered records of past encounters hidden within the oldest archives—suggesting that the Keening Gloom had attempted to breach the Citadel before the fall of its original civilization.   With no alternative, the Speakers invoked the Auroral Diamond’s full defensive capabilities, reinforcing the planar boundaries at the cost of severely draining the Citadel’s magical reserves. The effort held the Keening Gloom at bay, but the damage had been done.   Long-Term Consequences:

  • The event forced the Speakers to acknowledge that the Keening Gloom was not just a natural force, but an active entity with unknown intentions.
  • This led to the creation of the Planar Watch, a coalition of scholars and warriors dedicated to monitoring and defending against future incursions.
  • Some believe that the Keening Gloom’s test was only a prelude to something worse, and that the true battle for the Citadel has yet to come.
