The Tale Of Magic
The story of how magic was taken from the world and how it was restored.
Summary
In the Old Days, before the elves entered the world from Shadow, and men did not yet know how to speak, the dwarves had not yet learned to work stone and ore, and the halflings had not yet climbed out of their holes, there lived a great and beautiful Princess, daughter of the Creator who made all things. In her Magic lived and she gifted it to her father's world. And lo, men were given the power to speak, dwarves to hammer metal and delve stone, and the halflings discovered the sun and the wide world.
But outside the world, in the darkness beyond the Shadow, there dwelt an envious and mal creature who envied the Mistress of Magic, but she could not enter the world, and so she watched an waited, her ma intent and envy growing.
Into the world blessed with magic the companions came. Mysilwi The Hunter and his friend Straznik The Guardian. With them came The Twins, Astraios and Noctis, the celestial avatars.
On the winter solstice Straznik was resting while Mysilwi hunted the Celestial Bull and he heard a voice singing in an arcane tongue he knew no mortal creature could master. He followed the magical sound and came upon Cassia.
The Princess was instantly struck with passion for the immortal Guardian, and he could not but return her ardour.
The Dark Queen looked on her envy growing. But she perceived the warrior was not alone. The Hunter she ignored, but the Twins, one tied to the light of knowledge and the other shadow's mystery she saw as tools who could be tricked into helping her cause. Through her whiles she manipulated Noctis into breaching the Shadow, so the Dark could pass through.
Now in the world the Dark Queen abducted Cassia, and chained her in the Dark, and magic went out of the world.
The long journey of the Companions to search for and rescue the Chained Princess is a story in itself, sufficient to say Straznik rescued his love and magic returned to the world.
