Sun Moon District

The Sun Moon District is the Toresta neighborhood with the lowest population density, highest real estate value and most prestigious inhabitants in the city. Although there are rumas built throughout the city, the largest and most lavish, with the most amount of land around them are built in the Sun Moon District

Demographics

Almost every structure in this district is owned by a member of the Founding Families i.e. someone listed in the Sapphire Journal. In most cases these large rumas are occupied by the wealthiest and most politically powerful members of the Founding Families. Many are occupied by several generations of Founder's descendants.

This being so the balance of owners are either Human, Gnome or Halfling, though many of that species make Fourcorners their home, even among those listed in the Sapphire Journal. Of course many employees, servants, ground keepers, etc. also live here, in the various servant quarters of the great rumas.

Three of the buildings in this district are very famously occupied by others. One by a very famous privateer, another by a captain of industry so wealthy that he rivals the wealth of the richest Founder Family. The third is owned by an elf mage, and has been occupied by him for at least the last two-hundred and forty years.

Defences

Like most of the city the Sun Moon District is patrolled by the City Watch, though one would not be wrong to think that patrols seem a little more frequent, and enforcement against non-residents a little more forceful.

Many of the houses have their own small security forces, often staffed by mages as well as fighters. most will also have a variety of arcane defenses, some as simple as arcane locks, others as complex as wards and alarms.

Infrastructure

The district has its own semi-independent water drainage and cistern system. Many private entrances to vaulted halls where private longboats and paddle boats are tied up open off the canal. Large bins are located discreetly around each building for servants to dump night dust, which is emptied by the Dust Men's Guild.

Many Rumas are built with private courtyards. Well built cobble walkways and paths criss cross the district.

As each rumas is likely to contain its own private shrine, library, etc. there is no bethel in the district.

History

The Sun Mood District, named for the symbols of the twin deities, and their most pronounced reminder present in the sky, was first settled early in the third century. The structures at that time were more humble, but no less the homes of the richest Founder Families.

After the breakout of the Danilov Leyline in the fifth century resulted in expanded arcane industrialization and an explosion of prosperity in the city The Heartfields were the first to build a massive rumas along the canal which bares their name. Other prosperous families soon followed. The district was set aside for Founder Family occupation by order of the Duchess in 802 ATC, requiring special permits to build there. Subsequent structures became more elaborate, as the previous, more modest buildings were razed to make room.

The three non-Founder owned rumas were permitted by special variance by the duke, and no doubt, large sums of currency changed hands to make that happen.

Architecture

Every rumas, no matter where it is in the city is likely to be elaborate in its construction. Most are still constructed of red brick and have slate roofs, but many contain inner courtyards, elaborate kitchens, ballrooms, receptions rooms, studies, libraries and bedrooms and apartments.

Buildings are likely to have entrance halls that run from the canal to an interior courtyard or garden, sometimes under canal front pathways. Large and numerous windows that look out on the canal, baloneys and roof terraces. Internal grand staircases, grand salons and even warehouse space.
