Human
Toresta's most prevalent species. Humans are widespread and politically dominant on the Aerusia continent in Western Pasaulis.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Humans are bipedal humanoids said to have been made by the Creator in the Old Days. They have numerous subspecies, all of which are capable of interbreeding. Humans range in size from 5 ft to just under 7 ft, though there are outlier examples that have been recorded that are slightly outside these parameters.
Genetics and Reproduction
Humans have two reproductive sexes. Females reach reproductive age at twelve years, but culturally do not mate until the late teens at the earliest, as humans are born quite helpless and require constant care for many years to survive.
Growth Rate & Stages
Humans are born quite helpless. It is typically several years before they are able to walk independently and a like time before they master language at even a rudimentary level. The childhood phase last until puberty, which occurs at approximately twelve years, typically first in females and later in males.
Typical peak reproductive period last for a short time in the female, typically from twelve to thirty-five years. Males can reproduce for much longer even into old age.
Middle age is considered forty, as typical lifespan is eighty years or so, although with arcane intervention ages extending into the hundreds is not unknown.
Additional Information
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Humans are native to the Aerusia continent, though they have traveled the breath of Pasaulis and have settlements even in the Western Hemisphere. Their populations dominate much of Aerusia, though many other sapient species also live there.
Civilization and Culture
History
Legend tells of the creation of the species in the Old Days, though language was not among the Creator's direct gifts. That came from the elves at some period after that species breach of the barrier between the fay Shadowrealm and the Material World.
No single point of origin of the species is believe to exist, and there is no know progenitor couple, group or clan to which all humans trace their ancestry. There are several subspecies or racial groups which do seem to have original habitats, but the long millennia of intermigration have rendered any claim of specific territorial dominance moot.
The Ludzie people originated on the south coast of the Eye of the World, the large inland sea of Aerusia. Most still live there, but at least two groups, one travelling down continent to the mouth of the Fairstream River, and another who left the continent entirely for Trilla, are known to be of this stock. Earliest records of their presence in this area date to ~2000 BTC, well into the post Old Days period.
