Requirements
The Duke is typically a member of the elite, either one of the Founding Families or a merchant who has worked himself into the Aristocratic class.
Appointment
Toresta's duke is elected by the College of electors.
Benefits
Torestra's duke occupies the Duke's Palace in the Acropolis Precinct. The Duke (or Duchess) receives a stipend linked to the custom duties and tariffs paid by shipping through the city. The more prosperous the city, the higher the salary of the ruler.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Appointment is for life, unless removed by a unanimous vote. It is also permitted to resign, due to health issues making one unable to serve.
