Daiga and Dipond Dynasties

The ruling dynasties of the city-state of Milton are said to have descended from the twin sons of Noctis and Astraios. The ruling families of Daiga and Dipond have ruled over Milton since ancient times, predating the modern City Calendar dating. Initially styling themselves as the Twin Monarchs over what was little more than a fishing village and a mill at the mouth of the Fairstream River, as the town grew so did the prestige and authority of the families.

Twins run through both families. The twin kingships are hereditary in each family but not automatically from father to son or daughter. Many times a king has died, leaving only underage sons or daughters. Anyone still in Cadre is ineligible. Both the Assembly of Elders and the Council of Milton can reject any candidate thought to be infirmed, mad or subject to bouts of cowardice

By law members of the Daiga and Dipon families cannot intermarry.

The kings duties include military command. In war one king usually leads the campaign forces. They are the chief priests of the Guardians of the Stars Iron Temple, Milton's most important place of worship. They act as judges in certain cases involving inheritance and marriage, and are the final arbitrators of all legal cases in the city, holding individually the ultimate pardon power. they are members of the Assembly of Elders for life. Symbolically they are considered the "First Citizens" and their names are always listed first among any list of Elders, Councils or on legal documents.

Present Daiga Monarch

Leonaides is the present King from the Daiga family. He succeeded his great uncle Cleoment who died in battle at sea in 736 ATC. Born in 711 ATC Leonaides has a twin, Andecline who is a well known fleet commander, and veteran of many battles against Torestani privateers. He is married to Menitide, who he met while in Cadre. they have a sone and two twin daughters.

The Daiga monarch occupies the Plaid Palace, well known for its colorful and ostentatious architectural flourishes.

Present Dipond Monarch

Filidia is the present Queen from the Dupond family. She is younger than Leonaides. Born in 724 ATC she is married to Grantice, a War Captain who is a decade or so older than her. They have two children, both in Cadre.
