Wraith Sight
Wraith Sight refers to a condition of astral projection into the Plane of Dusk brought on by the consumption of the Sereshi Oyster. The Plane of Dusk is where lost souls wander; awaiting or avoiding Thallo's attention. It is also where beings such as Wraiths and Ferai can be seen roaming, existing alongside, but just out of reach, of the Material Plane.
Whilst experiencing Wraith Sight the corporeal form of the individual remains unmoving within the Material Plane, trapped in a state of trance like semi-consciousness.
Transmission & Vectors
The only known method of achieving Wraith Sight is through the consumption of the Sereshi Oyster, a rare creature only found in the underwater caves scattered amongst the Kaiskål Isles.
Causes
Sereshi Oysters are actually toxic to most sapient species and the consumption of them results in a near death trance, allowing the temporary astraprojection into the Plane of Dusk.
The risk of exposure to the Sereshi toxin and the significant difficulty in acquiring the creatures means the occurrence of Wraith Sight is very low and not something one can contract by accident.
Symptoms
Initial symptoms include tingling and coolness in the extremities, lightheadedness and what those who have experienced it describe as an "impending sense of doom". The individual then enters a state of trance where they have little to no awareness of their surroundings and no ability to move or manage any form of complex communication.
As the Sereshi toxin wears off, full loss of consciousness occurs for a short period of time. This typically lasts anywhere from 5 minutes to 2-3 hours and symptoms such as visual distubances, nausea, fatigue, and auditory hallucinations can last for up to 2 days after.
Treatment
Wraith Sight is usually a voluntary undertaking for cultural or religious purposes and so not something to be treated. Simple remedies such as herbal teas and rest help with ongoing after effects of having obtained Wraith Sight.
Prognosis
Over exposure to the Sereshi toxin and prolonged periods of Wraith Sight can lead to fatality when the soul of the individual fails to return to their material body, which eventually perishes.
Cultural Reception
The use of Wraith Sight is not common across Tordronnen outside of religious practices of Clerics of Thallo and the Azarel people of the Kaiskål Isles.
The use of Wraith Sight is a key part of the funeral traditions of the Azarel. Following the death and funeral rites of a member of their community, the Shaman will undertake a passage of Wraith Sight. They do this to intentionally enter the Plane of Dusk and ensure that the soul of the departed is not lingering with the living as this is believed to bring great misfortune to the rest of the settlement.
