The Faces of Isle Ravna
“The beings that remain there are so cursed, so mortifyingly undead, that to speak their name, is to defile the memory of those they hurt.”
- Celestials, Aberrations and the Corrupted, by Leopold Der Vitner
The Stone Faces of Isle Ravna are the closest thing to a living creature to inhabit the island. The story of their beginning is drenched in mystery and blood. Now lost to memory, only the beings themselves remember why they are what they are. Originally healers and researchers, their experimentation on the people meant to be in their care was so cruel and inhumane that one God's curse was not enough restitution.
Halaenia Goddess of Healing, Xivan God of Life, and Nemesia Goddess of Protection, came together, each representing a different member of the Triarchy to curse these individuals beyond a single god's power.
After witnessing the the mistreatment, torture and experiments carried out on their patients, the God’s decided that a single lifetime of punishment and suffering was not enough for these wicked people. They cursed these former healers and researchers to live a half-life forever, trapped within the stone walls of the buildings that occupied the island. The very buildings in which their atrocities were committed. Never having a form of their own, fully conscious and aware of their own pain, living with nothing but their own thoughts for all eternity. Even the Lord of Death would not allow their suffering to end.
If another being is unfortunate enough to wander onto the island, the Soul of these beings may sense another's presence and try to reach out to them. In agony, they will stretch what little soul they have remaining beyond the boundaries of the wall in the shape of disfigured arms or faces. However, should a living being look upon these outstretched attempts to escape their stony confines, they return to stone; unable to ever communicate their suffering or any repentance to another soul. A sudden appearance of disfigured limbs and faces would be seen as unmoving protrusions from the walls, as if built from the stone itself.
